Rated5out of5bymissionhkrfromSticky, do everything mountain shoeI use these for moderate trail runs, full day hikes and for scrambling up peaks. They are very stable and cushioned enough for moderate trail running (~10 miles) and make a great all day hiking shoe in rough terrain. There is no comparison to the traction on these, no one else makes anything close. My husband has the Camp Fours with the same sole and they've withstood 6 years of mountaineering, hiking, bouldering and biking in the MT Rockies.
Most other approach shoes are just too flimsy and lack enough tread depth to handle loose dirt/small talus typically found on peaks. Typical trail runners lack the stickiness and sturdiness to be good on rock and off-trail approaches. The Savants handle both well. The only downside is it appears Five.Ten has stopped making them. The Camp Fours are great, but no where near as breathable and take forever to dry after a dunking.
I got these a half size larger than my typical size 6 and they fit perfectly.
