Read More I tested this jacket out on a half hour walk around town during some wonderful April showers - varying between light rain to substantial downpour. After about 20 minutes, my entire chest and stomach area were soaked. I could feel the water seeping in through the zipper. When I took the jacket off, I discovered that my shoulders were soaked as well. So, water leaks through the zipper and the material is not waterproof enough for 30 minutes of rain in a key spot. It does look sharp, though. -

Read More I live in Bellingham,WA, it rains a lot here. I've had the jacket for a year and wear it tons. It worked well for the most part. I washed the jacket as instructed in cold water and hung it up to dry. About 2 weeks ago my shoulders started getting a wet and the laminate started coming off in one spot. I took it in to my local REI and they exchanged it for me. REI is great, Generally speaking Mammut is great. Hopefully this is just a one time thing because it is a really great fitting jacket, looks great, the stretch is awesome and overall I would give it a 4/5 stars. it would get a 5/5 if I didn't have to exchange it. I guess i won't wash this next one. Cheers -
Aug 15, 2014so far so goodsolid jacket and definitely recommend, comfortable fit and works well for its intended use plus its not a thick liner so you stay plenty cool compared to others out there.

Read More I'm an all-season commuter cyclist in Chicago. Basically the best way to dress for this is as a mountain climber. Who better to make a mountain climbing shell than Mammut? I went to REI in search of the best deal for a lightweight, packable rain jacket that I could use for cycling in Chicago winters as well as hiking in Hawaii. I wanted versatility, solid construction, a slim fit, and of course water and wind protection. The Tatoosh fits these requirements. Yes, I did spend more money than I'd anticipated on this jacket. However, after researching many options, I feel that paying a little more for this versatile piece of gear is going to pay off in dividends (not just REI dividends) in my future travels. It's not going to provide much warmth, but that's what layering is for! My main issue is with the front zipper, it needs to be finessed into place before zipping up, due to a dual-shuttle design. A great fit for people who don't take up a lot of space, I feel like a champ in this jacket! -

Read More I have been in the market for a windproof/waterproof shell for quite some time for Chicago Winter bike-commuting. I saw this jacket pop up on the radar at my local REI and was impressed with the quality/fit/feel/pricing. I know Mammut is a trusted company, so I went for it. While the jacket certainly delivers in the windproof category, I just commuted home 10 miles in the drizzling rain and the jacket was soaked through by the time I got home. I'd say this shell is wonderful for keeping the wind and bite out on a cold day (with layering, of course) but leave it at home if you're up against anything more than a sprinkle and/or snow shower. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this. It looks like the jacket is proprietary for REI and not sold at any other retailers. Again, it is a solidly built shell, I would just not recommend it for the rainy conditions. **Also of note** I'm 6'2'' 170 and wear a 40L atheltic cut in suit coats. The sleeves are long enough for casual wear for me and actually are impressively long at that, but they ride up while biking or climbing. Unfortunately, this is probably more of a reflection of my ape-arms than this coat being incorrectly proportioned. Just a heads up for others like me. -
Oct 23, 2013Great fit rain jacketUse it on everyday to work or hiking. Great slim fit for form fitting body types.

Read More This jacket looks and fits great. When I bought it, I was aware that the zipper is reversed as compared to typical American zippers. I figured I could get used to it, but despite being on the opposite side, it is also just a poorly designed zipper. It was hard to get it properly started, and even when I did, it often got stuck part way up. I ended up having to return the jacket to REI. Given the great design otherwise, I'm hopeful that Mammut will address the zipper issues (and hopefully also create a model for sale with an American-direction zipper).
