Comments about Mavic Crossride Disc 29er Wheelset:
I bought these rims to build up a set of summer rims for my Surly Disc Trucker. They are a good price and they are a fair bit lighter than the stock rims with a wallet friendly price.
However, they are made for 15mm axles naively However they only come with the 15 to 9mm QR adapters for the rear wheel.
REI does not stock the conversion kit and it seems to be pretty much unobtainable right now.
So if you have a ridged front fork, most RockShox or anything but a high end 29er fork these just won't work for you out of the box.
I have no idea what Mavic was thinking about shipping these out and marketing them to the entry level cross market and low end 29er market without making sure that the parts most people need to use to get them to work on their bikes available.
Note for these rims you need the ones for the 2013 cross ride, the cross max versions will not work. And because people are unlikely to hang sub $300 wheels on a $800+ fork that will likely have 15mm axles they are sold out ever where.
Stupid me, I removed the stickers on the rear wheel before I realized the parts are back ordered for months or I would have been returning them.
