Comments about Liquid Image EGO HD Camera:

A big ski family, we bought this for our extreme skiing 9 year old for Christmas. On first use out of package, half of mount spring broke off. However, it still seemed secure in mount. The worst thing is the camera mount platform is so wide it doesn't fit onto any helmet. Half the mount is airborne. Our first two days' video have a huge camera shake/rattle from wiggle between camera and mount. We're not sure if this is based on the broken mount or the way the mount fits the camera. The third day we wedged tissue making tighter fit. WiFi use is super limited. You cannot use it to view live video or while camera is filming. We found we couldn't get connection on top of Stevens Pass--not sure if WiFi or mode of camera was the reason. The tiny screen display is nearly impossible to read on mountain so you are guessing which mode it is on--using lights to determine recording setting. It is tricky to turn on and start video recording, too. The buttons are hard to press and there is a delay for the Ego to react-leaving to error. Also, it does not download directly into MAC iMovie--you must download to desktop and then drag over.

In all, it seems difficult and tedious to use. Even thought my 9 year old enjoys the video downloaded, she is already tiring of using it since it is so hard to turn on and off on mountain. It also seems ridiculous the mount is so wide it doesn't sit flat on top of a helmet, (looks stupid) doesn't come with an extra mount to switch locations of wearer, nor comes with a side mount option. The mount is more than twice the width of the GoPro.

Lastly, there is almost no instruction included in the user manual. It appears it was written in cryptic form. Additionally, the Ego comes with only one HMI cord that plugs into computer to charge and download. Nothing to charge it into a wall outlet---and instructions tell you not to use alternate plugs. Also, there appears to be no other options for a head mount or any way to wear the video around the house or backyard to film any action other than on a stationery device. This is misleading when you consider their commercial shows filming a cat chasing a laser pointer in his house. The fishbowl viewpoint is very cool for this purpose. How is this being filmed? Is he wearing a helmet in the house? This was another use for camera I thought my daughter would enjoy.

If you look on the Ego website, there is absolutely no pictures of anyone wearing the Ego or showing the mount in use. Is that because it doesn't look good on anything except a surfboard?
