Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
A good, field-cleanable, lightweight filter. A little harder to pump, with a slower flow rate, than most filters. However, it's also half a pound lighter - and so what if it takes 8 minutes instead of 5 to fill your water bottle; what else have you got to do? Add a couple of Platypus bottles and a Platypus filter link so you don't need 3 hands (like other filters), and you've got a near-perfect solo filter.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
I love this item. No more nasty tasting chemically treated water. This item is quite light and the filter lasts for an extremely long time. In any event, none of these people seemed to understand what they were buying. This is a small and light filter that obviously has a short stroke and small output. Everyone here seems to be in some sort of hurry when needing to filter their water. For me it's all about getting away from the fast paced life and taking it easy when on the trails. Just realize it may take a few minutes to fill a bladder. Don't be skeptical about this product. Buy it, try it, and remember that you can always return it if you don't like it.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
I could have gotten water faster by hiking back to the trailhead, driving to the store then hiking 10 miles back to camp. This is a hideous product and it amazes me that it could make it to the store shelves. I'd rather suffer giardia than endure the torture it takes to pump a liter of water with this again.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
I've had the unit for a little over a year. It accompanied my on 200 miles of the AT last summer and numerous weekend and extended weekend trips in the mountains of NC. I always test the unit with tap water before leaving and it always works. In the field, 80% of the time it takes multiple assembly and dissamble trying to get the vacuum to hold before it will pump. I have to apply silicon lubricant literlly every time I use it in the field to get it it work, and even then it takes several attempts before it starts pumping.
I intend to thow mine away-- just wish I could get a refund on the two filters I purchased in advance.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
I've had this as my only filter since 1993. It is what it is. It's a small filter that is a pain to pump because it takes so long. I find myself boiling more often to save the exercise. But it's with me, doesn't weigh much, and when I am thru-hiking, dead low on water and find a little trickle, it is there to save me. My usual way for pumping with this is to put the bottom of the filter on my inner thigh, help the hand that pumps with my head, and also keep the target bottle steadied between my legs.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
Very lightweight. This is a small filter and pumps much slower than most. If you are getting water for a large group or dont like to take your time this isn't the filter for you. I didn't find it hard to pump if you just pump slow, going faster doesn't seem to make the water come out faster. For 1-2 people traveling light this filter is great, so light and small you hardly know it is in your bag. Easy to use and easy to clean. The only problem I have had is that when the filter was completely dry at the beginning of a trip it takes a while to get the water flowing, but after that it works great.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
Good as an emergency filter when you don't plan to use one except when absolutely necessary.
Nice and light, filters well, lasts longer than the skin on palm will if you use it regularly.
I would use it only if I plan to filter rarely.
Just too hard to pump.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
This pump does what it is supposed to do, but it does it very slowly. It takes a while (about 4-5 minutes) to pump 1 liter, plus it is difficult to pump. After one trip with this pump I listed it on ebay. For 3 more ounces you can get a better filter, or go even lighter with the SteriPen. I would not recommend this pump.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
As others have said the Mini if awful. If it will even pump, it is so slow you might as well dig a well. Mine pumps 10 oz per minute, when it works.

Comments about Katadyn Mini Filter:
This pump failed me the 1st day of a 1300 mile trip on the PCT and I had to send away for my Sweetwater pump. Not worth the 3oz weight savings. Buy a pump which works or start to enjoy the taste of bleach/iodine.
