by Jack DaytripperfromGood, but not GreatI bought the helmet trying to get a three to four season helmet I could wear in winter and Summer for my mountain bike. I wanted better coverage with fewer openings for ventilation (we have a lot of thorns and sharp cactus in Texas). It came with a winter liner, but no summer liner without the ear flaps. REI also does not provide a way to order the "optional" summer headband liner. I went to the Bern Website and they do not sell them direct. I went to the dealer listings and No one carries the summer headband liner for this helmet. It was advertised as multi-sport and multi-season, but falls far short in both categories. Providing the summer headband and the winter liner in the same kit would have been too simple and logical. Since I bought it from the REI Outlet site as a clearance item I have little recourse and little chance of ever getting the summer liner. Bottom line: Get a Summer helmet and a winter helmet and forget trying to find one that can do both.

by gcareyfromPerfect winter helmetI was concerned about the fit being too tight after reading some other reviews elsewhere. My head is 22-1/4" and the L/XL fits nicely. There is a velcro adjustment on the back and I can loosen it to wear a thin hat underneath when needed. The ear tabs are comfortable and the strap fits securely and has a nice rubber piece to hold the extra from flapping around. Ventilation is just right for winter riding; you get just enough air through to keep you from overheating in the cold. The vents also allow for headlight mounting for night riding.
Others have commented that this helmet does not have a summer liner. While it is not included, it is available directly from the manufacturer. They have a special website with all the accessories; site is printed on the product tag.
I wish the helmet had more reflective features. I added Lightweights black tape that is invisible during the day to maintain the appearance. There is a visor clip on the back that you may want to remove for biking (comes off with a screwdriver) or you could clip a blinky light on it for night riding.
I feel this helmet really protects my head all around unlike some racing helmets that sit up higher. It has kept my head warm down to 30 degrees (so far) which makes me feel warmer overall when I'm out in the cold. I'm sure I will appreciate it during my commuting through the winter.
Overall I am very pleased with the purchase.
