Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for every trip! This headlamp is 100% a must have for every trip whether it is hiking, day trip, camping, or backpacking. It is always in my backpack right next to the first aid kit. So far it has come in useful for building a fire, setting up tent, and making dinner after sunset. I have used it to search for lost sunglasses between boulders in the middle of the day. The dimming feature is great when using it as an overhead light in the tent, just dim it down and throw it in the gear canopy for a nice soft lighting. Red light is great to not wake up my boyfriend when I am still awake after he heads to bed. The only part I haven't figured out is the strobe light... I just use it as a threat when my hiking buddy gets irritating (because it is obscenely bright)... That brings me to another plus, the light has a tilting function which makes for more easily reading and talking to someone with it on without blinding the other person. Ok I'm done. Bottom line this is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little headlamp for the dollars My old Petzl Tikka headlamp, being eleven years old, was wearing out. The headband was stretched out of shape and the body had a crack in it, so it was time to replace. I shopped for a new headlamp, and narrowed down to a few models, including the Cosmo. Finding it on sale, I went for it. The headlamp has three LED's... two normal brilliance, and one super-bright bulb in the center. The two bulb configuration (16 lumens) is fine for working around camp, preparing meals, getting the tent set up, etc. The center bulb at a whopping 70 lumens is great when you need a lot of light... hiking or find a cathole in the middle of the night. Both settings can be gradually dimmed as needed to save on battery life, by simply holding the power button down. There is also a "strobe" flashing mode, which is great for those late night backcountry rave parties. The lamp tilts at four different levels. However, I noticed in the lowest level, the light tended to glare in my eyes. I highly recommend not tossing out that little instruction sheet with the tiny print in six languages. The way the control button is used can be a little confusing, and actually reading the instructions can be helpful. The power source is three AAA batteries. Haven't this long enough to determine battery life, but with lithiums I would battery life should be decent. The water resistance rating is IPX4, which means it will stand up to sprayed water (ie rain), but probably not being submersed. Despite the small quibbles, this is a great little headlamp, and I look forward to many trips with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Light turns on in my backpack Purchased this product especially for backpacking and because it had the red led option so you can retain your night vision and no blind fellow campers. First time I went to use it backpacking the batteries were low and would only stay on for a few seconds. I had just put new batteries in before the trip. Obviously due to the large on button and thinks getting crammed into my backpack the it got turned on. Luckily I had another set of spare batteries but was very disappointed that it had turned on at all. Not sure how to overcome the problem except to add some kind of protective cap for when it is stuffing in my pack. Anyone have any ideas. might be able to reverse on of the batteries but not what adverse effect if any would occur. Did not really want to do this or remove all batteries every time I stowed my headlamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again The headlamp adjusts to point straight ahead or towards the ground in front of you. There is also a dimmer to use when your don't necessarily need a spotlight and to save the battery. I have used it camping, reading in the dark in the tent and at home, and also to take the dog out at night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great headlamp with handy features I liked this both for the very bright main beam, the fact that the white light options are adjustable, and that there is a red LED which helps protect your night vision, so you aren't temporarily blind when you turn the light off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Touchy product I use this light when I go camping. As I'm walking around while wearing it, the light sometimes just randomly shuts itself off. It seems as if moving around too much causes the mechanism to malfunction. It has a very touchy button and sometimes I have to push the button several times to get the beam/light option I want. Its kind of annoying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic headlamp Seems like a decent headlamp, adjustable tilt, I like the option of the red LED for reading at night w/o attracting bugs to your face. I use rechargeable AAAs with this light and the battery life is reasonable but I never seem to get the hours they mention on the box. Adjustable for varying head circumference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice light settings Bought this to replace my 10yo petzl tikka. Chose it for the multiple lighting settings - I recommend going to a store and testing out the headlamps on display to determine which one has the brightness/settings you like. For me I like the multiple levels of brightness for white light, multiple strobe settings for both red and white light. I use this light for backpacking, car camping, & cycling - a nice well rounded light for the different tasks I use it.
