Rated5out of5byBoubonManfromPerfectIt's perfect for high-output activities in cold weather, because it strikes the perfect balance of warmth vs. ventilation. I use it for backpacking and cross-country skiing. If I ever lose this, I will buy it again. The only (super-small) criticism is that tag sewn into the B-side of it.

Rated5out of5byDr. SciencefromAmazing!Great beanie! I wear it running and hiking. I've taken it down to 15 degree weather without issue and will be using it on an upcoming ice climbing trip. Breathes extremely well for high output activities like running and biking in the cold.
It can be pulled down low enough to easily cover the bottoms of my ears and a bit more.
The only thing: The way the "reversible" is designed. The white Smartwool tag is huge, so you obviously cut it off. But it's sewn in such a way that I can't cut it all off without risking unraveling the thread holding the hat together. So when I reverse the beanie, I have a couple big pieces of the white tag showing. It's kind of funny, but I would have preferred if they had sewn it in like on some of their products where there are just a couple pieces of thread holding each corner of the tag and it's super easy to cut off.

Rated5out of5bydanedeasyfromAbsolutely love this hat!Love this hat. Keeps my head warm in the cold winter of Chicago. Is also super thin so it works great under a bicycle helmet and keeps my ears covered from the cold, icy wind.
I thought I lost it after a couple weeks and bought a second one! So you can tell I really love it. Then I found the first one and managed to return the second one due to REI's amazing return policy!
Would buy again!

Rated5out of5bychupacabra is realfromGreat beanieBeanie works great for running. I've worn it at 15F to 30F and it worked well at both ends of range. It's light enough to breathe during hard work outs. Warm enough for working around in the cold. I'm very happy with this purchase and will buy another if it holds up after several washes.

Rated4out of5byMudandSalt72fromThin and WarmI like this beanie because its thin and warm, I can wear it under a helmet while climbing and on trail work parties. Its merino so it doesn't itch, it breathes well and doesn't mind a bit of perspiration.

Rated5out of5byjudgeholdenfromBest Beanie EverThis hat fits perfectly. I have a larger head (7 3/8"), and this one covers me from the bridge of my nose all the way to the base of my skull, and all of my ears. It's got enough tightness to stay put without giving me a headache. I'm bald, so most hats tend to slip off my head after a while, but not this one. It's also the perfect weight for running. I've never worn it just for warmth, but I imagine it would do great unless it's -20. I've washed it three times, and twice I accidentally put it in the dryer, and it's shrunk a TINY bit, but that's my fault. I'm probably going to order another since this one will be sweaty all the time. Highly recommended.

Rated5out of5byfossilbandmanfromNot too thick, not too thin...just rightMy 2 most recent (and both lost) skull caps for use under my bicycle helmet were thin enough for the job, but neither covered my ears completely, nor were they quite warm enough in temperatures below about 40 degrees plus wind chill. Enter the Training Beanie. Thin enough to wear comfortably under my bike helmet, very warm and breathable, and doesn't overheat with harder exertion. Perfect for the job. Drying time is longer than synthetics, but it doesn't stink like synthetics, either. Worth the $$.

Rated5out of5byprozekfromGreat training hatI bought this beanie to use when running and training outside during these long Michigan winters. It is the perfect hat for this purpose. It is even nice to have the reversible two colors for when your whim requires a change. It is wonderfully light and surprisingly warm. It is not a heavy duty wool hat and it doesn't try to be. It does what wool does best, it keeps you warm, wicks moisture away and is lightweight. I would definitely recommend this item and all SmartWool clothing to boot.
