Comments about The North Face Borealis Pack:

I bought this mainly to replace an old pack I use for school, but figured I could try it for day hikes also since it has the water bladder/laptop storage. I have never used North Face before but hear a lot of good things about them. I have to say this bag doesn't look like it can fit much when you first see it, but it's like the Mary Poppins bag, you can just keep stuffing all kinds of stuff in it! I was able to fit one 2 inch binder plus two other 1 or 1 1/2 inch binders in the main compartment.. and I do feel like I could have added more, probably skinny items in. It's also pretty tall in the main compartment which could come in handy. The second biggest compartment is really deep, I threw my purse in there and could still fit the usual school stuff and necessities. It also is really comfortable on the back, despite being pretty full. I was debating between this pack and the next larger one up but heard that one is too big and doesn't distribute the load/weight as well. I would recommend this, seems like it is really versatile.

I baught this bag because my old north face Bag of ten years finally bit the dust. I wanted a new every day bag and day pack for weekend hikes. This one fit the need and price. I use it at school work and play. It is well built and comfortable to wear. The only con is I miss my stretchy net on the front this has an aplastic web that is ok to hold a sweatshirt but not a pocket for small stuff. All in all I love this bag.

I ordered this pack in leopard yellow/gray asphalt for my son for school. We bike commute in Seattle, so a bright color is required. The color of the actual pack is not even close to the bright cheery yellow of the photo displayed on the website. The actual color was a very muddy, grey-ish, mustardy yellow that my son hated! The picture is the same as the one on the NorthFace website so REI is not to blame but still wanted to let others know. The pack itself seemed good, and we're going to try to find something similar in a better color.
