I've had this grey Kryptonite, and it was very easy to use, it works with most parking meters.

The newer bracket is weak, easy to break and harder to use.

This lock works fine for low crime area, but in cities I would not recommend it.

My bike was stolen around 7pm from using this lock. It was defeated with leverage attack, where the U part was bent 90 degrees, and the lock mechanism shattered on the inside. My lock just sat on the street separated... Basically it was done without power tools from what I could see, which means it was done quick and relatively easily easily. If you want your bike secure the U-lock needs to be the kind that locks on both side of the U-bar. This grey one lock on one side only! And therefore with enough force and give of the metal, the U-bar will slip out, allowing the theives to take your bike.

Seriously don't get this lock! Try the orange Kryptonite, if not the yellow NYer, or chain lock. Those are the only secure stuff that makes it much much harder for thieves to defeat.

I bought this lock a few months ago after my nice road bike was stolen - someone either cut or unlocked the cable combination lock.

I did some research on locks and decided on this one because the Fahgettaboudit was significantly heavier than this one, as well as smaller.

There aren't too many bike racks in my area, so the larger size is a plus. It works like it should - the keys work fine, the plastic covering doesn't scratch the frame, and I think that any thief with the right tools would NOT find this significantly easier to cut than the Fahgettaboudit or any heavier u lock.

I use this lock to attach my frame (and only my frame, that's all it really fits) to bike racks, and I use a masterlock cable lock around both of my wheels, as well as a tiny seat leash for my seat/seatpost. If I felt I needed to go more secure, I would probably buy another similar or better U lock and then lock the back wheel up.

Advice on buying a lock:
- Cable locks don't do anything - if you only have one lock, it'd better be a U lock.
- Always lock the frame. Then the back wheel, then the front wheel, which is less expensive, then the seat.
- I live in a really well-off, safe county, but bikes still get stolen! I still needed a U lock!
- ALWAYS write down your bike's registration number, because if it is stolen and the police find it, that is THE ONLY way they know for sure it's yours.

Kryptonite service is TOP NOTCH. They sent a new bracket right away for free when mine broke.

The U-Lock has been fine for me and has worked well, but with that, I have to say that the bracket is one of the most POORLY ENGINEERED PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET. This bracket is 2 inches too thick, does not grip any part of your frame well, and it's a bulky piece of plastic made to hold your 5-pound lock. Its only redeeming factor is that it rotates 360-degrees and that mechanism is excessively over-designed (could have been achieved with 1/3 of the material).

My bracket broke when the thin metal screw supplied snapped in half while tightening it. The overall bracket is so big that you can't put the lock near where the rotation of your pedals go, because the crank will clip the U-lock, when attached. If you ride a hard tail, you can't put it near the rear of your frame because the 3/4" tubes are too small to allow the bracket to fasten anywhere tightly. And you definitely don't want the U-lock to slip and be in contact with your spokes or else bad things happen. The lock slides in fine and is secured, but sometimes is difficult to pull out.

My roommate got the other reputable competing brand's U-Lock and although the color looks ridiculous, he got a simple bracket that actually fastens well and the U-lock is of comparable quality.

My first frustration was that I could not even open the lock. The key wouldn't turn and I was ready to return it. Then, with enough force, it finally opened. Then, I tried putting the mount on my bike. That was another frustration. I ended up finally taking it back to the store so that they could put the mount on for me. The REI guy even said that it might be easier to just carry the lock in a bag. One plus is that the lock mount does allow for angle change, so I could fit my lock mount onto my small bike frame. Overall though, this lock provided too much frustration and I should have returned it from the start.
