Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

This tent has been discontinued, and you can no longer order the footprint. Otherwise I'd give the tent 5 stars.

Other than that, this is a really great tent. Love the teardrop doors and the ease of setup. It's a great construction. Not sure why they discontinued it!

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

Love the color-coded quick set-up. Very easy, even in the dark. Perfect size for a couple, but might be cozy for 3. Warm and blocked the wind very well. Only down-side of this is that a significant amount of condensation seems to develop on the inside surface of the rainfly if it is totally zipped up. This does not cause problems overnight (no drip through) but can delay the morning unless you want to pack it wet.

On the flip side, we weathered a torrential downpour in this tent with no leakage whatsoever. Just a small amount of condensation on the floor/walls where the tent was submerged in cold water, but no leak. I even kept a book in one to the convenient sidewall mesh pockets with no water damage at all. See attached image for details of the flood surrounding the tent!

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

This lightweight 3P tent is perfect for two people and their gear. The vestibules are big enough to keep footwear outside and have room for packs on the inside. The tent was very sturdy with all the stakes in (you need to buy more if you want to fully stake it out). There was some condensation on the fly even with the vents opened, but that was expected in Florida.

Rain fly is covered in sticky film!

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

I paid full price for this tent. The rain fly is covered in a sticky glue-like film. I think it was a poor choice of waterproof coating material. As a result, the rain fly is difficult to unfold. Actually it must be peeled open like layers of saran wrap. It does not slide over the tent, rather it sticks. After use the rainfly is completely covered in dirt and other debris which sticks to the surface of the rainfly. Totally frustrating to use. After one use I decided I must return it despite the high cost of shipping it back from here overseas. I urge REI to re-consider the choice of waterproofing material.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

I've had this tent for 5 years and used it in all kinds of weather except snow. Its surprisingly spacious inside and once you learn it its easy to set up For one person. Ive used it on many backpacking trips and would recommend it for that.

The suggestion i have is to mark the top and bottom of the 2 hubs on the pole set. Ive flippedthem wrong way out enough that this really helps streamline set up

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

Wife and I have used this for camping in the woods and at the beach in the rain. It's extremely easy to set up and it stayed dry in moderate rain.

I also really like the pockets and compartments around the tent.

It was roomy for us two, but like with all tent sizing, it would only barely fit 3 people. With just the two of us we have plenty of room for our two sleeping bags, two piles of clothes, and two pairs of shoes.

first test 2 day camp at Yosemite valley floor for Half Dome ascent. very quick set up. good rain on night #2 and tent stayed dry and comfy. Ventilation very good which was handy with 85 degree days. Not much room for extrea gear but enough. Small but right sized for sleeping 2 and good weight for packing.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

I have used this tent backpacking with my 7 y/o son and again backpacking with both my son and 9 y/o daughter. Easy to set up and PLENTY of room for 3 plus gear INSIDE the tent & vestibules. It is very light for it's size/price-- just 6# including footprint and stakes.
I LOVE that the doors quickly and easily unzip with just one hand motion. There is also a cool ceiling pocket for quickly stowing the opened door so the door is not hanging in the opening or on the ground.
The tent is HUGE inside with nearly vertical walls and a high ceiling with places to hang a light. Excellent ventilation but the walls are solid high enough above ground to protect from wind and splash-back in rain.
I have not experienced heavy rain yet, but everything was dry after a couple of light rain showers.

I don't like how big it is when packed, but its a big tent so that's a minor gripe--I pack the poles separate from the tent to spread it around my pack.
My biggest gripe is that there aren't enough stakes included to fully pitch the tent and fly. The head and foot walls of the fly MUST be guyed out to keep the fly off the mesh screen, and you'll need to buy these stakes because the tent only comes with 6 stakes which are needed for the tent corners and fly tensioners.
I also find the jet-black guy lines to be kind of cheesy for a tent like this--reflective lines would be nice.
Overall this is an excellent tent and I feel it is well-built and should withstand several years of use. I'd buy it again.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

I am no camping expert, but this tent was great. We do a lot of recreational camping. We got this tent to replace a coleman tent we were using. Our old tent was a 6p that could easily fit 2 queen air mattresses. After spending the night in a continous 8 hour down pour along with strong winds and lighting, we decided our tent sucked. We ended up sleeping in the car that night.

We were definately nervous about the size of the 3p quater dome but it turned out to be just the right amount of room. I suppose 3 people could fit in this tent, but I think it fits 2 comfortably with the rei 3.5 camp beds. We spent part of the day in a unexpected heavy rain storm and the tent held up well. It rained pretty hard for a few of hours but the inside of our tent and gear stayed dry. We even had a pond of water form but nothing made its way into the tent.

This tent was easy to set up and take down. We definately felt our money was well spent. Long story short, you get what you pay for. I definately think better gear equals more time to enjoy camping rather than worrying if your gear will hold up.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent:

This tent is a great buy. I own a T2, and have loved it on solo trips with the dog. The T2 has fit the bill quite nicely for my purposes.

The wife wanted to join, and I wanted to drop a few pounds from our previous family backpacking tent, so it was a no brainer to get this one. I picked one up, and this tent has been solid on the many trips I have taken it on.

The wife and I can have it set up in less than 5 minutes. There is room for the two of us, the dog, and our two packs. I am 6'0", and I will say if I were so much as 2 inches taller I would need the T3 Plus version. If I really stretch, and point my toes down I can have my head and feet touching both ends of the tent. I knew this going into it, so it really doesn't bother me much, but is something to be aware of if you don't sleep deep, or that would bother you.

For being able to sleep 2.5 comfortably the footprint size is quite small, which can be great when finding a location to pitch it.

I also really like the velcro vents on the fly. What a great design. Water will not get it, and condensation will get out. I have never had a problem with water build-up as long as the vents are open. I also really like having the 2 "tear drop" doors. Each person can easily get in and out on their own side, and the doors stuff nicely into the overhead pockets which can be used at night for glasses, a flashlight, or anything else. I much prefer this to the "buckle through the loop" doors.

I have never had worries about it collapsing, or falling in on itself. This tent is solid, and I have no fears taking this into a multi-day trek.

I spent months researching tents before finally committing, and simply put, I don't think you will find more for your money for the weight. If this tent were stolen, I would not even look at others, I would order an exact replacement.
