Comments about The North Face Hedgefrog Multisport Water Shoes - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
Bought this model for my year in East Asia, knowing I'd be walking on wet surfaces. I like the shoes and wish I could wear them more. Nice to have shoes that slide on and off easily here. They seem durable. Nice grip on wet surfaces.
One problem: The shoe rubs and pinches just a bit on the outside of my foot, just south of my little toe. I overlooked it until my foot got too sore. Now I wear them just occasionally, never more than an hour or so at a time, and I'm OK. Sometimes wear thin socks to help reduce friction.
The problem started, by the way, before I reached Asia, so humidity is not the prime culprit. Shoes just taper a bit too quickly for my feet, in cold or hot weather.

Bought a pair for myself and liked them so much, I bought a pair for my husband. He wears a 8.5 - 9 Medium but needed a 10 in this shoe. Other than the poor sizing (too short and too narrow), it's a comfortable shoe. Wanted these for a beach trip.

Comments about The North Face Hedgefrog Multisport Water Shoes - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
I was a bit worried after reading the reviews about these being uncomfortable, but now that I tried them, I have to say I don't find them uncomfortable as described by others. However, the insole feels like it's about quarter inch too short by the toe area, hence my toes could feel the edge of insole which is kind if uncomfortable in that respect. Otherwise the shoes hug very nicely to my feet, but they do feel a little small for me. I normally wear a size 10, and this was a size 10. A 10.5 might have fit me better.
I'm still undecided to keep or not, but I will give it a couple of days of wearing to know.

I love the fit of this shoe for me. I normally wear an 8.5 C (medium/wide in women's); this is equivalent to a 7 in men's. The men's shoe is usually wider and I just wear a heavier sock. Men's shoes are better for my arthritic feet because they have a higher toebox and more cushion. These shoes fit me well because they run narrow and a little short for a men's shoe. The heel is a little wide but I could stitch the strap a little shorter. After reading the reviews, I knew a 7.5 would probably fit. Unless you have a narrow foot, I can see that men would have to go up at least a half size or more. I only gave it 4 stars because I think the heel strap should have been adjustable.

Too bad. I really wanted these to work because they are (relatively) inexpensive from the REI Outlet, but they really are very uncomfortable.
After reading the reviews, I still thought I would give them a try. Several of the reviews say that these were very uncomfortable, but I figured that comfort (especially with shoes) is very subjective, and perhaps what didn't fit others might fit me. As it turns out, it wasn't the fit that was an issue; its the way they finish the inside of the shoe. It is like they built a normal shoe, then removed all the soft lining materials that make normal shoes comfortable against your skin.
The first impression was that I could feel some of the seems and material edges against my skin. I thought after a while, perhaps, I would get used to it, but instead, they turned into red sore spots that were very uncomfortable. After about two hours (this is without socks by the way) they were so painful I had to take them off.
I immediately purchased some Sperry Top-Siders SON-R Ping Bungee water shoes, and have been MUCH MUCH MUCH happier. They were on sale at the time, so they were only twenty bucks or so more, but even at full price, they would have been worth it by a long shot.

I love this water shoe for all around traveling. I still have Keen's which seemed to start the water shoes trend for hanging out, and I also have the Salomon Amphibian shoe, but this TNF Hedgefrog bakes the cake, takes the cake, and eats it too. I've traveled a lot and on long day city walks even use it with socks for a nice soft feel. During the middle parts of days when it's real hot and I'm near water, I'll take the socks off and use it regularly, where a quick pull of the most awesomely designed laces secures my foot right into the snug bed, and keeps it there. When traveling light, I brought just these and thong sandals for a 2 weeks trip. I even did 2 running, and track workshops because they are that close to my feet and secure. I would not recommend running in them of course, but it can be done no problem. It's been 5 months I have used them and the wear is showing a little bit, but I really use them a lot. Yes, they do clean easily and are "quick drying" considering that there is much fabric, but the footbed dries at lest in 5min, or can be wiped clean. The color is solid and matches anything. I do not like the bulky wide toe feel of the Keens when comparing this Hedgefrod, mainly because this shoes is way more athletic and agile. Will probably buy another pair to replace mine!

Needed a sandle and figured this may fit the bill. But no go. You need to order at least 1/2 to a full size larger for proper fit. The bottom of my feet felt roughed up after only wearing about an hour or so. Overall very uncomfortable and disappointed.

Comments about The North Face Hedgefrog Multisport Water Shoes - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
I bought these to relace my Keen water sandals. As soon as I put them on they were a big hit because of the tuck-away loop for the laces, the heel pull, and the soft interior material. However, as I wore them around the house for a day, I found that my toes hit into the front. I had to return them and go a whole size larger in order to find the right length. (width was just fine on both sizes.)
Now that I have the right size, I can say that these shoes are super comfortable whether I'm wading in the river, walking in the woods, or strolling downtown. The traction is excellent on slippery surfaces. I will have to wait and see how durable these are and am expecting more than that I got from the Keens that delaminated after two years.
