The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Contour + Wearable Camcorder:
The Contour Plus is an upgrade for me. I started off with their GPS model. I liked the additional features of this model, so I felt the upgrade was worth the extra expense. I used the GPS model for three different activities; Skiing, Biking and Flying.
I like the unit for biking, when helmet mounted it is extremely lightweight and pretty much a turn it on and forget it. I have found the views to be more stable when I switched up to a handlebar mount. I tend to wear it most of the time when I ride, partially to document poor drivers and partially to get scenery for a long composite video I made for riding the rollers during the winter.
The GPS really works well in the ski environment. Having speed readout on the video gives you an idea of how well you are doing from run to run. The goggle mount works just fine, better yet when I added some adhesive backed velcro to the mount and my helmet to supplement.
The contour is the only form factor that had a limited frontal area to withstand the high speeds when flying. The wide angel gives smoother overall views and dramatic punch to the video.
My latest craze is the camera's time lapse mode. Again the wide angle lens gives dramatic views of developing weather formations here in the mountains that are fascinating to watch.
For most of my applications I get 3-4 hours out of a 16 gb card. It means I must usually carry two batteries. The batteries last 1 hour with the GPS on and two with it off. The connect view works fine, albeit finicky if near other interfering sources like cordless phones and wireless networks (the same frequency). I tend to use it at the start of activities to check orientation of the lens. I did like the addition of the HDMI output. This lets you frame up shots with an excellent view on small monitors, or play them back with high fidelity. One other change is the addition of an external mic jack. The GPS's audio was hopeless if you where in the wind or moving. This allows you to place a mic in a more protective location.
For most of my applications I use a 16 gb card. It give me about 3-4 hours of record time

Comments about Contour + Wearable Camcorder:
First off, I'll say that I've had the product only a few days, and had two tests so far, a very short test run and a longer one. My initial impression is that the unit is very durable, but time will tell.Cost: The [$] cost was a hurdle, but I bought specifically through REI because of the liberal return policy afforded to members. While I appreciated having the connect view card included and the 2Gb microSD card, you really need at least an 8Gb card to make the unit usable. Mounting: I purchased only the vented helmet mount as an additional mounting option. I would think for the purchase price that Contour would include one of the higher end mounting options for free. The helmet mount works well, but despite the lightness of the unit, you can still feel it up there. I can't imagine how heavy the GoPro would feel. Video: I have only had an extended run using 30fps/720p, mostly due to the 8Gb card I purchased. I wish there was an option to not use the 170 degree wide angle. I might not be doing the math right, but keeping 16:9 and reducing to 135 degree angle would probably reduce the slight fish eye effect. I have not tested the low light performance but there seems to be a number of white balance adjustments that can be made.Picture mode: One of the options is a continuous photo mode with the option to have the interval set to anywhere from every second to every 60 seconds. I'm not a camera guy, but I'm assuming the shutter speed is not quick enough to make this useful, as almost every image of the 45 taken during my 45 minute ride was blurred. Not sure if a firmware upgrade could address this or not, but unless walking, I'm not sure this has any value.Sound: One of the primary reasons why I paid the premium for this unit was due to the many complaints about wind noise. I thought hearing commentary might be worth it and occasionally humorous. I have yet to purchase an inexpensive mic. In the meantime, it seems that the + model is better than previous ones in terms of performance, but it occurred to me today while riding that wind noise is there with your own ears. Expecting any mic to somehow filter wind and allow voices seems to much to ask. Software: It seems like I missed out on all of the problems/lack of features that many have experienced with prior firmware versions. The Contour configuration software is fairly basic, but useful. Having two different pre-configured modes to switch between is a nice feature. The Storyteller application is very basic. For any real editing, you need to take the video to another app. Supposedly you can include GPS data with the export, but haven't tried that yet.GPS: One of the best feature additions with the latest firmware update is the ability to have the unit check for positioning up to 4 times per second. This was the point of my 45 minute test ride. Given what I've heard about inaccurate GPS data from other reviews of the ContourGPS model, i'm assuming this feature really helps, as the my ride generated very detailed and accurate GPS data. Also, locking on to a GPS signal outside was very quick, probably under 10 seconds.Bluetooth: The initial connection to my iPod Touch worked well. As advertised, it isn't intended to be high quality, just for lining up your unit and changing settings as necessary in the field. I did notice that the connection would flake out and not run indefinitely. Also, the second time I tried to use the viewfinder function prior to my longer ride, I couldn't make the connection and plan to try again later. That being said, I started my ride anyway and the results were fine.Battery life: Can't really comment since I only ran the unit for probably 90 minutes. I would have to get a bigger microSD card to put this to the test.Summary: In the end, I rated the camera a 3 mostly because of the high price. I would probably give it 3.5 if I could figure out how, and possibly come back and update to a 4 once I work with the product more. I'm hopeful that additional firmware and application updates will improve the unit.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery from REI, ordered over the phone, was three days by ground and arrived before the original due date. Customer service was great as always.
