After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. I love the bike even though it is heavy. My big complaint is with Marin. I was hit by a car and destroyed the front wheel. I tried in vain to get Marin to tell me how to replace it. I wanted to get the bike "back to new". My local bike shop (a Marin dealer) could not get the same rims. I now have a bike with one "presto valve" and one "shraeder valve" which sucks and I paid $160 to replace the wheel. I dislike Marin who were no help whatsoever and would buy a bike from a different manufacturer simpy because Marin does not care about their customers.

far and away my favorite bike, the Muir Woods 29er is a heck of a lot of fun to ride as an urban bike. Remarkably complete as is, I added a rack (Topeak Super Tourist Disc) and fatter tires (Schwalbe Big Apples). The tires required a different front derailleur for clearance. Disc brakes work very well wet or dry, a bit fussy to set up and then they stay set up. I also replaced the brake levers for less than $20 with a nicer set that provides better brake feel. Overall, a very responsive and agile machine.

I'm a big guy, and between the weight of the bike and the size of the frame, it's definitely a big guy bike. Not for weight weenies.
