Comments about Enchanted Rock: A Climber's Guide:
This book is basically a reprint of an older version. The older version was terrible. Lots of mis information, bad route descriptions, and easy to get a first time visitor lost. The new book is a little better, but much of it remains the same. The big difference is just the addition of color photos which are nice, and a topo of the backside of Enchanted rock that the previous version did not include.
I just picked up a copy recently because i collect all the guides to my home climbing areas. I have immediately noticed quite a few errors. One in particular that caught my eye right off the bat was a route description that labels the route as a top rope route and tells you to climb the boltless slab. Then at the bottom of the description it says five bolts. I have climbed this route many times and it is a leadable route with bolts.
There are many more errors i have noticed as well. Too many to list here. This book was poorly edited and its obvious that the author has not climbed most of what is in the book.
If you can find a copy of the old Dome Drivers Manual.. GET IT. Its the best of the best and many locals still rely on it for its accuracy and is all in all a much much better book. Buy this one only if you can find nothing else.
