Comments about Jones Solution Splitboard - 2011/2012:
I was fortunate to be one of the first owners of the Jones Snowboard The Solution 168W from the 2010/2011 season. I have to be honest, the first year of production had massive, massive problems. For one, the entire The Solution production line apparently had issues and delivery was delayed. Of that, the 168W apparently had even more problems, and by the end of the year I was wondering if even a single board would ever ship. Well, they did. But on delivery, I had to speculate what kinds of production problems they had actually overcome, because there was a sn1tload of problems still apparent with the board I got.
The tour bracket inserts, for one, were offset. They were wrong. They didn't fit. It was obvious that when the did the "wide" design, the CAD drawings were stretched, and so was 1 insert hole location. So I had to go grind 1 hole in the bracket for some extra space to get the screw in. The sole material die-cuts were sub-par, with gaping holes that needed repairs straight from the factory. Overall craftsmanship was sub-par compared with a lot of other boards I have purchased. All in all, if you didn't know the potential of this board, you would be pretty upset.
That said, I was more than pleasantly surprised. I am SO happy with this board that all this manufacturing hoopla doesn't even merit a -1 star on the overall rating. As a matter of fact, if I could give this board 6 stars, I would. It is simply THE BEST board I have ever ridden. And the shocker is that this isn't the best SPLIT board I have ridden. It is the best board PERIOD. (I have owned about 15 different boards over the last 10 years. I think the shrinks have a name for my condition.)
The pros are overwhelming. It is a stiff board, meaning that it will take all sorts of crud coming at high speeds. It is stable, and builds confidence. For those mountain scenarios where you're not sure what is under the powder (it may be deep pow, it may be a 1/4" of pow with killer wavy concrete ice underneath, it may change every 10 yards, you know the routine) you can still charge it without a second thought. This board will take you through it all. Amazingly, it is also a floater, so the deep stuff that makes us all smug is oh so fun too, without sacrificing the gnarly stuff. At first its a bit scary because the nose doesn't float above like you'd expect a fish-ish board to do. Yet, the nose never seems to dive, and is always fully controllable. JJ wasn't selling BS when he said this is the ultimate mountain weapon. It is.
That said, with all good things there are the bad things. I would not suggest this board to a novice. It is stiff, it is tough, and it is not forgiving if you aren't confident with riding from edge to edge. It is also heavy, something that (so far) can't be avoided on a split.
I also wouldn't suggest this for those that like to pop tricks etc. The stiffness means you'll really need to make an effort to make the sucker pop. However, if you can actually put enough weight on it to make it pop, oh, it will pop. Maybe a bit too much, especially if you're used to the tofu-soft boards of recent. However, my friend who rides the same board manages to throw down some sick tricks using the exact same board, so I know its possible.
As far as the climbing part is, the really mellow magne-traction does work on the center edges, but to be honest, in the powder country I live in I can't really feel that much of a difference between a normal edge. Its probably worth it, and on the outer edges it DOES make a difference on ice, but climbing up it is pretty much the same as any other split.
The low down is that this is the board you want if you like really putting your weight into turns, love speed, want to just race through anything and everything the mountain throws at you, and have the skill to make it happen. This isn't the board for the novice or faint of heart, but for the all mountain BC freak, it doesn't get much better than this.
Truth be told, I bought 2 boards last season, and the other board only saw 8 days of use. Not because it was a bad board, but because my Solution was just so freakin' good! I took The Solution to the resorts on days I KNEW I would never use the split functionality, simply because it was so good.
For the record, I live in ski/snowboard Mecca, and get about 40 to 60 days of riding under my belt each season. Of which I usually get about 15 to 25 days climbing and riding. I'm a heavy weight at 220lbs, at 5'11". But I would recommend this board to anyone that has had a liking for stiffer boards, and loves to charge.
If you like mellower, softer boards, and/or if you find yourself not fully confident on all terrain at the resorts, this might be a bit of a monster to tame. (But hey, I started off riding one of the stiffest boards of the time, and while it was a rodeo, it certainly built character. ;-)

Comments about Jones Solution Splitboard - 2011/2012:
I agree with all things said by Jon in the other review. It's a solid board and well built. There are a few things I wanted to mention, though.
First, my board came in pretty much ready to go. I didn't have to drill any extra holes or make adjustments. Everything fit just right. My board is a 164 regular - so that may have just been an issue with the wide boards.
Second, I have already noticed a few dings around the tail. I haven't been on anything rough, so I am not sure what is causing these. Probably transport issues, so make sure to be careful!
Third, be ready to fly. This sucker likes to go like nobodies business. It is taking a little bit to get used to from my smaller and more flexible burton custom. If you're used to "softer" boards it may take a few times out to tame the beast.
Also, the graphics are slightly different than the photo above. The base is white and not black. Still looks nice. I've also noticed that it's a litle bit of a pain to get back into riding mode from touring. It doesn't "line up" as easily as I would have thought. This is my first split, though, so I am not sure if this is just how they all are.
Overall = great product and fun ride. I'm about 155 - 160 lbs (without pack) and have a 164 with Voile hardware.
