I have owned two columbia 3-in-1 winter coats in the past ten years and both have been outstanding. The first one I had for five years and it was still in decent conditon when I lost it. The second one was a 2006 Maroon Bugaboo. I still where this coat every winter. While it is not the lightest, or most technical of winter coats, it is durable and warm.

In five years I have managed to get one ~cm tear in the front of the shell (that has not grown larger at all) and a 1 inch tear in the seam of the fleech near the neck. This is amazing considering how hard I am on clothes. The shell is no longer waterproof as it has been washed several times over the years and I have only sprayed it with dwr twice. This treatment will help to extend the water resistance but will never make the shell completely waterproof again.

Columbia's quality at a relatively low cost has made me a customer for life.

I am vice president of my college's outing club. This coat has been with me on 25 of the 48 high peaks in the Adirondacks. Whether through wind or rain I stay dry and warm. The fabric is breathable and allows for a full range of movement. I can't wait for the snow to come and test it out on the slopes!

I use the jacket for skiing, and general outdoor activities here in Wyoming.

There is literally nothing but huge positive comments about the shell...lot's of zippered storage pockets and all of the zippers are high quality...shell material really is windproof...don't know about waterproof yet as I've only experienced snow, but those conditions build confidence for use as a shell-only in rain.

The fleece liner is over the top soft. Really like the fact that it extends all the way to the edge of the shell sleeve (actually goes maybe 1/2 inch past) The liner sleeves attach to the shell with snaps that are located several inches inside the edge of the shell...this allows wearing long gloves and having them inside the shell, but outside the liner...cinch up the velcro straps on the shell and you're locked in comfort against any crash and burn on the slopes.

Weird thing about this jacket...I'm 6'3" 240 lbs and usually wear XLT...this jacket comes like it was made for tall guys (only available in the reg size)...even sleeve length suggests a reg is tall.
