The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
This is a well-made, tough shoe. I generally like Salamon shoes - I have a narrow heel and a low-volume forefoot and Salamons are built on a last close to my foot.
However, there are two major problems with this shoe that I find make my feet hurt after an hour of running or even hiking. There is minimal shock-absorption under the heel but particularly under the head of the metatarsals. Unlike my other shoes, and despite my replacing the insoles with custom orthotics with good shock-absorbing qualities, the bottoms of my feet are twice as sore as with other trailrunning shoes. Part of the problem is the Kevlar-type laces. Unlike nylon or polyester laces, they have no "give" at all - which means that the shoe doesn't accommodate the slight bulging of your foot with every footfall. This increases the downward stress on the metatarsals, making the lack of shock-absorbency even more acute.
I've had them long enough I can't return them, but if I could, I would, and then try another pair of Salamon shoes.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I like the shoes. The waterproofing is good.
HOWEVER: The guy at the store assured me when I asked about the ultra thin shoe-laces, that they were made of kevlar, and I'd be hard pressed to break them, or even cut them. Well, I broke them about a month in just tightening the laces, and because they are in the way they are, I had to cut them out...which was also easy.
After cutting out the ultra thin laces, I realized that the loops for the laces actually have brackets built into them, making it almost impossible to relace the things. I tried to relace them with 550 paracord, but that was too thick. I did manage to finally re-lace them with some thinner shoe-laces I found.
Beware!!! Buy shoes that don't rely on cheap laces!
Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
An addendum to my prior review. I have heard of many who love this shoe. But I just spent a week hiking 8 hours/day in Shenandoah National Park, in my Salamon boots, and my feet were only a bit sore at the end of the day. But 2 hours of hiking or running in these shoes make my soles quite sore. Must just be me.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I am on my second pair- bought them as soon as I wore the first out (several years) and will buy another pair when I wear these out. I am a surgeon, on my feet all day, and these are my every day shoes- my feet feel great at the end of the day (certainly not the case with all shoes). I also wear these everywhere else- outside hiking, kids' sporting events, etc. They are comfortable in all these situations as well, and the best waterproof shoes I have owned short of wearing my Asolo boots, but still very breathable and light. I have run in them only once- through the hospital in an emergency, and my feet and legs paid dearly- they are NOT running shoes from my standpoint. I would sooner just wear my regular running shoes on the trail- despite their label as trail running shoes, I don't see where these would offer any stability benefit, really.
I love the single slider lace, since I have to change clothes frequently at work, though I agree with other reviewers that it slips a bit over time. My first pair did not have this problem. The lace on my second pair is also too long- has to be doubled up to be tucked away- annoying when you're doing it several times a day. Both my pairs have had the problem with the plastic coupler on the lace wearing a hole in the Gortex near the toe- Solomon definitely needs to fix this- that's ultimately where water starts to get in (This is the reason I indicated "Wears Quickly"- otherwise, they wear fine). My first pair had the issue others noted with the soles making noise like they were splitting in to layers, but my second pair has not. Despite some fixable shortcomings, I love these shoes and won't look further when it comes time to replace them, I'll just get another pair of these.

I had to buy this shoe when winter arrived after buying the non-waterproof version earlier this year. I love the unique pull lace-up design, comfort and support. For me, it's great for walking and bicycling.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I was not a fan of these shoes and my opinion might be considered biased. The ortholite sole that is found in the shoe is too aggressive and unnecessary. Moreover, the shoe cannot decide if it is a trail shoe or a boot due to the stiffness. I much rather prefer a minimal shoe that doesn't try to fix pronation by inserting a giant lump in the arch.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I bought this a few days ago and used them for 10 miles so far, I can tell right away that the stability control is amazing, walking on trails feel so flat, very smooth, thanks to the stability chassis..
1 thing I noticed is that the collar area is too hard and it gives the back of my ankle a bad time, prolly you need to wear thick wool socks, this is only the problem with the blk/green gore tex waterproof version, which is a different inner design.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
From trails in North Carolina to Afghanistan, I've put miles on these shoes in a variety of environments and they have never disappointed. I switch between shoes a lot, but have had my Salomons since early '09. Aside from expected wear, they show no signs of breaking. I absolutely recommend these to anyone wanting a rugged but comfortable shoe.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I have owned two pairs...wore the first ones right out and coundn't wait to get another. I have a buddy that feels the same way we love these Salomons! If you work around water, and dont need or want to wear boots, these are great, truly water proof yet they breathe and they are light. My only complaint is that the first thing to wear through is where the draw string lace attaches to the toe area eyelet. Salomon needs to put a little patch between the lace eyelet and the top of the shoe...easy fix.
