Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
Shell: Made of HyVent 2L. I tried to get better specs from TNF but no luck. It's pretty solid though. Material feels very tough while being breathable and waterproof. I have the red color and it looks great. The HyVent is probably not as good as GoreTex but I can't tell the difference. Plus I've heard people complain with higher end materials being too stiff. This material feels strong and is not too stiff. I love the 6 pockets (5 external, 1 internal) and a gogle pocket is realy nice. The low sleeve pocket is very handy, big improvement over bicep pockets which I find useless. Great ski jacket for cold to moderate conditions. (Triclimate is nice for that reason). It also has a pant seal, but with the liner zipped in you can't use it. Not "wind-proof" officially, but does the job in moderate wind. Hood is a little big (made for helmet) but fits OK without helmet and does offer some wind protection. Liner: Really warm. I was skeptical. But it's really warm, probably as warm as down. It has 100gm Ecotherm insulation. I also thought it was weird it didnt' have the insulation under the arms and at the elbows and on the sides. But again, it is really warm. TNF said it doesn't have insulation there for increased mobility. But it doesn't sacrifice warmth that's for sure. I was warm with just the liner in 20F with just a t-shirt underneath. The liner is symethic so much better if you get it wet then down counterparts.Shell and liner together: Awesome jacket. Really warm. I was down in 5F with only a thermal t-shirt underneath and was OK. I think the jacket is probably built for temps between 30-0F but you have keep your core temperature somewhat up to stay warm with just the jacket below 5F. For really cold below zero I'd recommend a fleece under it, also would recommend zipping the liner out and warming that first and then the shell over it. This way you could you the pant lock. Overall, great warm ski jacket. You can always take the liner out. Not Gore, but good enough for most and for a much better price. You also get a liner which while not down, is really warm. I didn't give it 5 stars because it's not fully windproof and not Goretex. Also because you can't use some of the internal jacket features with the liner zipped in. Great for skiing and just being outside in the cold. Take the liner out and you can use it all the way up to 50 or 60F. Can't beat a 50-0F temp range with one coat for [$].I had a hard time deciding between this jacket and the Eddie Bauer BC Down Microtherm. I ultimately chose this jacket because it is more veristile, has more pockets, and looks better. But some insulation in the hood would have been nice.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
Spent my first day backpacking in this jacket in 50 mph winds and it was very comfortable. It's a tough fabric as well and seems like it will hold up to mild "abuse" from trees and rocks. Love the hood drawstring! It keeps the hood in place and allows you to look up or down without having to use your hands to hold it on or move it our of your site.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
I'm 5'8 and 185 lbs with a 42-43 inch chest and sleeve length is 33" so I'm usually a Large but end up with Gorilla Sleeves. This jacket is built a bit more roomy in the body than some North Face so the Medium fits well and the sleeve length is better for me. Even with a medium there's room for either a fleece midlayer or if needed could swap the Heatseeker liner for a Down liner (but doubt I'll need it) should temps drop to the single digits or below.
Just got it and took it for a test run yesterday. Started with temps at 31 and as the evening arrived continued into night skiing in the Pacific Northwest with temps dropping down to the mid 20's. With a light base layer and the jacket liner in it was ideal. Totally comfortable even at the cooler temps. No rain today so didn't test the waterproofing. Hyvent 2L should be fine though. I tend to run warm but didn't notice any chilling even after spending some time in the overheated lodge so the jacket and liner do seem to work well to wick off perspiration as well as keeping things warm and dry.
The Buddy Lift Clip is shared with the goggle wipe and is in the sleeve pocket. Snaps in the back are for compatible pants.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
This jacket is amazing! When I was in the market for a new snow jacket I checked out several different brands and styles (initially not wanting to spend as much as this jacket costs), but I ultimately settled with the vortex triclimate and I couldn't be happier - and the jacket is worth the price. This jacket is great as a shell in cooler/wet weather or when skiing/snowboarding, the liner is great by itself in cooler, not wet, weather that doesn't quite require the combination of the shell, and when all put together it makes for a great jacket that would suffice in any extreme winter conditions. The hood is fully removable (does not tuck/roll inside - which I prefer as I hate hoods), but the hood is rather cumbersome when worn. There is a nice felt-like material lining the neck which is very soft and comfortable. There are more than enough pockets, some even big enough for snow goggles, in all the right places, the zippers do not snag or scratch, and it has pant-a-locks that attach to most snow pants. My only real complaints are (1) when the jacket is worn with the liner, it can be quite bulky and might get too warm if worn on an active skiing or snowboarding day and (2) when the jacket is worn as a shell, the mesh liner (which would normally keep the snow out) has no where to attach to and hangs awkardly and just sort of feels in the way. Other than that, I LOVE this jacket and would recommend it to anyone.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
I plan on taking this jacket with me to the summit of Kilimanjaro in March and I have very high expectations. It's a bit on the heavy side but considering it takes the place of three jackets, I guess it's worth it. The inner down liner is very warm and comfortable on days when it's cold and dry. The exterior is waterproof and windproof and really does the trick. Combined it's a perfect fit for the summit. Just a bit on the bulky side but otherwise an excellent combination.
It's really too warm to wear here in the desert but I have taken it out to the nearby mountains and it's done the trick.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
I purchased this jacket and had it shipped to me for a winter in Afghanistan. I wear it daily during a variety of tasks. It is a durable jacket that can withstand the weather and abuse from daily wear. The 3-in-1 makes it great to adapt to the changing weather which is why it is the only jacket I have. It is comfortable and I feel it was a worthwhile purchase.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
I live in Seattle, WA bought this jacket for general cold winter weather in the northwest.
I can stand outside on a 25 degree day and my torso is as warm as when i left my house.
I've gone snowboarding 2 times this year, worked like a charm in windchill and light rain on the mountain. I'm only 5'7 about 145 lbs and there is plenty of room for extra layers if necessary, not that you'll need it :P
I pretty much use this jacket for all weather here in seattle, its great for anything 60 degrees or below i would say, assuming you remove the liner on the hotter days of course.
Great jacket, happy customer here.

Comments about The North Face Vortex Triclimate 3-in-1 Insulated Jacket - Men's:
I had used this jacket since I bought it with the cold rainy weather we have got. I had use it in my way to work and in weekends camping in the woods. I really like I can use it in 3 different ways depending the coldness and the heaviness of the rain. It's really comfortable and there no water and wind that can filter in it! The hood is excellent if you use or not a cap because you can adjust depending your head size with 3 different strips. I extremely recommend it as a long time jacket to wear on. The only cons I found it is that it's a little heavy for a normal use but I can live with that!
