by fromA Great Boat, Perfect Fit Bought this for my wife as a birthday gift. She relay enjoys the boat as its size and weight are manageable such that she can carry it easily and can load it on the top of her car by herself. Paddles straight and handles rivers with Class I & II rivers very well. Of course she gets wet in the the rapids, but that is part of the fun of a sit on top. We paddle with a local meet-up group and she keeps up with the group even with the short boat length compared to most the other 12 foot recreational kayaks.

by fromHighly recommended, the Benchmark Love the Kayak, has allowed us access to places we would of never considered going until now. We purchased two of them and love the idea of not needing gas easy to transport(Back of my 6 1/2 pickup box.)No trailers or waiting at boat ramps, just unload put in and go. Amazed at how stable and fast they are. we actually paddled up stream for about 2 hrs (Minimum current on river) and just floated back down stream, this eliminates the need to spot your vehicle at the finish point. We researched all the kayaks in this price range and are convinced we made the perfect choice for us. We are in our late fifties and are physically fit and recommend this kayak for all age groups interested in trying something new and exciting.

by fromBought 2 and love them We are women in our mid and late 60's and absolute love these kayaks. We find for a small kayak they track well, very stable and move very easy thru the water. We travel with them and average going out 2 or 3 times a month. We prefer flat water and enjoy bird watching.

by fromGood in the surf I bought a perception tribe 9.5 sit-on-top kayak a couple of months ago and it is really meeting my needs. It straps down nicely to the top of my small car (2005 scion xb) with the straps going through the door openings... don't need a carrier. The handles on the side work well for picking it up and carrying it on top of my head while i walk it to the beach. I'm able to tow it behind me through the surf and then get on with the help of a rope i tied on. I tied the (skinny) rope loosely (with maybe 18" of slack) from side to side through the handles, and using that i can easily straddle/mount the kayak from the front, lie face down on the kayak and then turn over facing the right direction. It doesn't track as well or go as fast as a longer sit-in kayak but i'm willing to sacrifice that for the ease of transport and being immune to swamping. I'm able to reach behind myself to push my daypack in and out of the bungy in back (i use a clipped strap on the daypack so it is secure from being separated from the kayak in case i get up-ended). My paddle (i got a long one!) is held in place nicely by the front and back bungies when i have the kayak upside down on top of my head when carrying it to the water... i bought a paddle leash so i don't lose my paddle. The bungies look a little weak and i worry they may break someday, but otherwise the construction seems sound.

by fromFun on the river and no need to roll Bought this boat last year and have taken it out in salt water, lakes, and rivers, even some small rapids and a tiny water fall. My husband has a white water kayak so I needed something I could tag along in w/o needing to know how to roll. Its short and agile, easy to turn on a dime and manuever. It would be better w/o the rudder for playing in moving water but as a general go anywhere boat its perfect. It has plenty of eyelets for connecting accessories (like thigh/knee straps) and a cup holder. The foot pegs are molded in so less moving parts to break. It has molded in handles on either side which makes righting the boat while in the water a bit easier and it also has handles on both ends to make carrying it from the car to the water with a friend easier. Overall a great purchase.

by fromGreat for Kids This is a great kayak for kids and it's best use is on a river (Class II or less) or at the beach. You can use it at the lake for short distances, but rowing a short kayak is somewhat of a chore. I weigh 180 and the kayak works ok for me because you have to row a lot to travel a little. Other positives: it fits in vans, or pickup beds and it's super stable. However, if you are an adult and want to travel across the lake, you should move up to the 11.5 foot model.

by fromVery Stable and room for little one! First kayak purchase and was very impressed by the helpful support by the REI Staff. Purchased the kayak because of its stability and the bow which allowed a place for my 2-yr. old grand daughter to sit. She can move back and forth in the kayak without any problems....no tipping. Although, the boat is not as fast as most, it is fast enough for us and seems to track fairly well--especially after I went back and exchanged for a longer paddle.....beginner's mistake. We have been having a blast, and we now love kayaking and REI!!
