Comments about The North Face WindWall Gloves - Men's:

tested many fleece gloves in the store for windproofness (attempted to blow through them) and this one seemed pretty good. this combined with nice exterior styling and reasonable price swayed me. they feel a bit scratchy inside but i thought i could live with it. i used these for driving three times and shoveling snow twice. they weren't especially warm, but they did well enough in early-season moderate temps. and then i noticed the seam near the thumb had begun to split.

i really couldn't believe this given they're north face. i have many other north face items and nothing has had this problem, so i'm suspecting i got the one dud in the lot. even though i am capable of easily stitching these up, quite honestly i shouldn't have to, given that these have seen no more than a couple hours of use. i returned them for a cheerful refund and went with the REI tahoma glove instead.

so, pros and cons:

pros: great styling and nice fit. windwall appears to work quite well. competitive price point.

cons: stiff fabric (assume this is at least partially due to the windwall layer and thus unavoidable) resulting in less maneuverability than i want; scratchy, untaped inside seams; inadequate quality control on the stitching, which came out after a very few uses.

this appears to be atypical of the north face, but still i did not choose to directly replace these like for like, due to the other drawbacks.
