Comments about Malone HandiKart Kayak and Canoe Cart:
I have a 63lb 17+ foot sea kayak and bought this cart to help me get my kayak over the beach. Whoever designed the wheels and the straps is a genius, whereas whoever designed the central pivot joint needs to go back to engineering school.
The wheels are light, strong and work well on sand, though not so well on concrete. They are hard plastic and are slick on concrete, even prone to sliding on a slope.
The pivot in the middle is the issue in that any torque applied to the joint will unseat the two metal pieces of the frame and collapse the kart. When I say any torque, I mean a moderate pebble, a small rock or a seam in concrete. Really, anything that creates any torque can undo the pivot. I have had my fiberglass kayak meet the pavement in an unsettling way a couple times and have learned my lesson. Go really slow and be prepared to catch your boat. I have found myself carrying my kayak around like a big suitcase more often now instead of using my cart.
So, it is great on a beach, but can be troublesome anywhere else.
