I conduct field research in remote locations and use the Nomad 13.5 to recharge a mapping grade GPS unit (Trimble Juno SB) and other smaller electronics. I started with the Nomad 7 only to find my GPS is older technology with higher power demands than consumer grade GPS units. GoalZero customer support was exceptional. They worked with me to help clarify my needs and upgrade to the 13.5. The charge rate in full sun for my GPS using the 13.5 is comparable to direct charge rates from the car charger or AC adapter. This solar unit provides good power with sub-optimal sun incident angle. My field assistant was jazzed by how quickly the 13.5 charged his IPod - happy assistant = better day in mountains. The output block on the 13.5 permits simultaneous charging of the GPS and IPod without obvious change in charging rates. I researched portable solar chargers extensively before buying GoalZero. They appear to offer the state of the art.

I'm an avid backpacker, however this time I was car camping. I'm comparing this to my Brunton 4.4 Solar Charger. Didn't seem to even get half the results. I had good sun, however the charger couldn't even fully charge the basic Goal Zero storage unit. I've had better results with the 4.4 and the Solio basic unit. Seriously disappointed. I hope this is something that I did wrong. Thanks.

Works for charging the iPhone 4 and other devices with a usb port or 12V car adapter. When I first plugged in the iPhone it said device not supported, but after talking with customer service they mentioned some tips. Leave the panel open for a min before pluggin in the phone, and try turning the phone off while charging. I haven't had to turn the phone off and it charges quickly. I bought the 13.5 panel because I wanted a quicker charge than the nomad 7 and I'm glad I did. You could even charge a guide 10 battery pack with this panel via the usb port.
