Comments about MSR Alpine Kitchen Set:
We put this kitchen kit on our wedding registry and were initially thrilled to receive it as a gift. Unfortunately this kit is not a well designed product. The roll-up feature is supposed to allow for easy packing inside a backpack. Unfortunately, the roll-up design means the cutting board contained inside the kit is constantly curled. The cutting board does not return to a flat shape once it is outside of the packaging. It proves to be a hazard for cutting and vegetables go flying if you forget to hold the cutting board down. The board is quite thin and I'm not sure it would hold up to a couple years of use even if it wasn't curled!
The folding utensils snap into place. This is fine unless you exert a particular amount of force (like using the serrated side of the spatula to try and break something up in a pan). Too much force and your utensil collapses back into its natural folded state.
This is the first MSR product we have ever been displeased with. We returned this product after a single use and selected the GSI Crossover Kitchen Set instead. The GSI Crossover Kitchen Set weighs less, is more compact overall, and the utensils/season shakers were designed to avoid the pitfalls we experienced with the MSR kit.

Comments about MSR Alpine Kitchen Set:
MSR has considerably improved their earlier alpine kitchen set. The last one used a large storage bowl which nested inside the alpine cookset, filling up the entire bowl and making the set too large and heavy for backpacking. This time they have used a unique roll up form factor that combines a comprehensive set of utensils that minimizes both space and weight. The set is perhaps best suited cooking for two or more, but I recently took it solo on a multiday hike and made use of most of the tools. I added the cleaning brush and knife to complete the set. I was able to do all my cooking and cleaning without any major headaches. I strongly recommend this comprehensive and affordably priced utensil set.
