The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
This is a good pack- very large. The "cypress" color from the website is darker than the actual color of the pack. I included pictures in my review.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
My wife had one of these but it was too small for me. I kept going to REI looking for a day pack with a longer torso, [...] Eventually I was on a competitor's website and noticed that the Redwing came in different sizes.[...]Anyhow, needless to say, I immediately ordered the pack (2009 model), took it to Mexico, where I 'day' packed all over Mexico (bus only - no car, lots of walking because we didn't have reservations) carrying just it and a fanny pack. Was able to carry a gallon of water (this was August/September - had 2 quart plastic bottles and two thermos bottles with ice water) in the outer pockets for easy access. We also were able to avoid checking any baggage on our flights there and back. It's large but doesn't feel large, has all the nice large pack features (padded straps, padded hip belt, well designed pockets, straps where you need them) but still gets in as a carry-on.Although it is not super adjustable, it comes in three sizes. Pick the one that fits and you'll be able to adjust it to fit perfectly. By sizing them instead of making a one-size-fits-most, it saves weight and headaches (especially for those of us who don't fall into the 'most' category).Joe-Bob says three thumbs up.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
Was looking for a pack to go minimalist for a 2 week junket to Asia. I Wanted a pack small enough to carry on the aircraft with me, but large enough to carry my gear. The carry-on Rule is GENERALLY 45 linear inches, which the Kelty just slightly exceeds. I needed to throw the pack in the overhead on a B737 and then an Airbus 330 SEA to BKK. The Alaska and Delta agents never batted an eye as I carried it on.
PROS....I had this pack filled to the BEEK! and was thankful the heavy duty zippers held no problem!! Plenty of room in the overhead on the A330, the pack took up 1/4 of the bin. Pack was also very comfortable with solid suspension and was readily adjustable. Had a simple and logical pocket arrangement. Had a perfect armored pocket that protected my IPAD too .....NICE!! Ideal airline carry-on !!
Cons.....Would be nice to have a rainfly to cover the pack when caught in a Monsoon!! Pack is a little tight ( actually thick) for a 737 overhead PACK LONG NOT THICK!, but it will jam in there.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
I am a professional outdoor photographer. I spend the majority of my time outside of the box, in a tent and on the trail. After much research, I purchased the Kelty Redwing 50 Liter pack to carry my photo equipment and necessary gear on day and multi day hikes for my photo shoots. My main requirement was a panel loading pack that fit comfortably and would evenly distribute weight. My photo equipment is HEAVY! I ran through several other packs that just would not cut it. I have used this pack now for over one year and on hundreds of shoots. It now looks well used but is in perfect shape. I am now purchasing another one of these packs for a good photographer friend of mine for Christmas. This new purchase has spurred me to write this review. I highly recommend this pack for the casual or heavy user. In fact, I find myself using this pack more and more on casual multiday back county trips, in favor of my primary (and much more expensive) expedition pack. The accessibility to the gear stored in the pack is awesome, the zippers hold up to heavy use, and the weight balancing ability of the pack surprised even me. The good folks at REI will happily show you the perfect fit and how to pack it properly. You can not find a better pack for you buck, maybe times two!

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
I bought this pack in 2009 to use for summer time 3 night/4 day hikes on the AT in Virginia. I may be using it somewhat outside design requirements.
I will say that it is fairly comfortable but the suspension is almost non-existent due to where the pack rides on your back.
The exterior pockets are very useful but they make it wider than most typical hiking packs. I slide my tent poles down and opening between the main compartment and the side pockets.
Overall I would recommend this pack for a day pack or overnight. You can easily carry a small family's gear in this pack for a day hike. I will continue to use it for this purpose or possibly for some overnight hunting trips.
Taking it for a 3 day trip is pushing the limits based on size and design. After two years using it on 4 day hikes I'll be getting a slightly larger pack with a more conventional vertical design.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
I bought this because it appears to be the largest capacity panel loading backpack currently available. I needed it as a massive bookbag for work (college prof) since bookbag as a category basically means it carries one or two books -- not enough when I have papers to grade or other work to do. I struggled with it for several years primarily because the zippers are forever getting snagged on the rain flaps. The only way to get them loose when they snag is to cut them free since they absolutely will not budge, forwards or backwards. My pack ended up looking like it had been run over with a lawnmower. Clearly, no one at Kelty ever actually used this thing. I'm currently using a North Face Surge (which, yes, holds 1-2 books at most) while searching for a better alternative. No more Keltys for me.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
I bought the Redwing to use for backpacking Central America. Lets just say that this pack never made it there. The pack seems to be great quality; the zippers are strong and the fabric is heavy duty. My problem is related to my intended use. The pack can hold a lot of gear, however the pack becomes extremely uncomfortable as the load increases. The shoulder straps connect to the very top of the bag. Therefore, if the hip straps are used, the straps completely lifted off my shoulders. That and the weight would sag low and push against my butt. If you aren't planning on treking around with a loaded pack, then this still might be a good bag.

I bought this pack to use on my motorcycle. I love it. I have used it hiking and its great, has plenty of room for a couple nights out backpacking. Fits my helmet and leathers when I ride. Have no complaints! Its easy to adjust and lightweight.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
Got this to replace my Camelbak Talon-J so I can hike with my wife and dog around San Diego. Ventilation is great. Straps shrink this pack to small size for shorter day hikes or let it grow to pack in gear/coats shed as day gets warmer on the trail. Green color is nice and calm. Rides well for me and has big pouches and easily accessible outer bottle holders to enable sipping mid stride. For longer hikes I can easily put in my camelbak bladder. This was on sale just after Christmas, so it was a steal and a great gift from my wife.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 50 Pack:
I used this backpack for a month long trip through SE Asia. To begin, it was the perfect size. I had to carry winter and summer gear (winter for China/Korea/Japan and summer for Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia/Hong Kong) and I had ample space. External pockets enabled quick easy access to oft used items like toiletries. I packed a pair of shoes, sandals, 3 pairs of pants, 2 shorts, a winter coat, 3 LS and 3 SS shirts, a towel, a computer, toiletries, and more and still had space for souvenirs. Compression straps enabled me to shrink the bag size down so that I could use it as carry on during flights. Padding was more than adequate and straps were highly adjustable. I strongly recommend this product for longer trips and for weekend outdoor backpacking trips. It won't disappoint!
