Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

I just received this pack in the mail and instantly took it to the trail. I am upgrading from last year's MULE pack. Loads more storage space, easily accessed hydration pocket, an expandable helmet pouch, and an attached rain cover. What more could you ask for?? Oh yeah, the new bladder is awesome! Great "quick access" pouches on the waist belt for that snack on the go. I will be using this pack for mountain biking, trail running, day hikes, and even over night hikes once I get my Mosquito Hammock. I am a minimalist hiker, so I can easily carry everything I need in it. There is enough room that I am also able to carry a very decent survival/emergency kit in the pack without using up much space. A very high quality and dependable pack! Well worth the money!!

Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

The main reason I purchased this pack was because I needed a good hydration pack that could also double for my DSLR camera case. The two side compartments are PERFECT for DSLR lenses. The main compartment protects my camera body very well with plenty of extra room. The smaller zipper compartment has different compartments for small items. Best of all it has the latest CamelBak Hydration System.

There are so many other great things about this pack. The over quality (fit and finish) of the pack is very good. I love CamelBaks attention to detail, it's the little things like the velcro and stretch bands that hold the slack of shoulder straps and waist belt so you don't have straps flapping everywhere. Also the rain jacket that covers the entire pack that can quickly be deployed from a zipper compartment at the bottom of the pack. Just a great all day pack.

Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

This is my second -- and probably last -- CamelBak. I only replaced my original bag to get something larger. The HAWG is a perfect size for the activities I enjoy.

My first CamelBak was a Mule purchased just months after they were originally released, but before I learned about the HAWG. This bag has lasted me nearly 15 years, was abused frequently, and still there is hardly a stitch out of place. The older style bladders were a pain, but were certainly the best thing available for years.

I have had my new HAWG for about 18 months. I am not as abusive as I used to be, but the bag has impressed me just the same. The material and construction is certainly on the same level as my older Mule.

Many of the newer features are welcome changes. Above all, the newer bladder design with the much larger opening is much easier to fill. The ventilation system makes the bag more comfortable. The compression straps are well placed and are functional, and the bag rides well on my back.

I do not like the new on/off switch or the right-angle adapter for the bite valve. I removed the one from my bag, and use it "old style" with just the bite valve on the end of the hose. My son has left his in place, and frankly we have had more trouble with his than mine. The yellow "switch" has fallen out several times (allowing the water to drain), and his leaks far more frequently than mine. Perhaps the leaking has something to do with being kid-owned, or maybe I have more experience with being responsible with mine!

I use my HAWG for day hikes. It has plenty of room for my first aid kit, poncho, water filter, DSLR camera, a small set of survival gear, GPS, maps, compass, small (AA) maglight, and all the food and water I need for the day. I can even strap a light tripod to the bag if I'm out to shoot HDR photos for the day. I typically carry 18-20 lbs (dry), and have never felt uncomfortable.

I suspect I could get enough into it for a light overnight trip, but haven't tried yet.

Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

This pack is very comfortable, even know that's not what is needed. The back panel, NVIS system actual works fairly well. Also enough room for light packers on overnight hikes. Also amazing for mountain biking. If you don't have a lot of luggage then you can use the compression straps. To cinch it down to be small. But you always have that extra room if needed. Also The hydration is amazing the new antidote is very nice. I would buy it again. I was going to get the Mule but didn't and i'm sure glad. Its just as small as the mule when you cinch it down. Very stable. Also holds a helmet. Which is nice if your doing a hike? mountain bike day. Amazing pack well worth the money.

Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

I did not want to dish the extra money for Camelbak, but commuting to work I discovered that my other means for carrying an extra load were problematic. I did not want to install rear rack on my road bike, so any kind of load aside from emergency repair stuff in the saddle bag is carried on my person. Waist pouch did not have the needed capacity half the time, and my large hiking hydration pack was blocking the rear view over my left shoulder using helmet mirror...

This pack has a lot going to it for cycling.

It has enough capacity to be used for daily commute - I can fit spare clothes for the day to change into, rain shell/windbreaker, plus the usual keys, wallet, phone, etc. The side cargo pockets are perfect for cycling sunglasses case in one, and regular clear prescription glasses case in the other.

It back panel is amazing for cooling your back. I had used packs with ventilated back panel design before, but this one works better then anything I tried before.

It's dimensions are compact enough to not obstruct your rear view when mirror is used - which is very important to me as I commute in traffic. Also it is compact enough even when fully loaded, and does not create the extra drag that full hiking pack would.

The integrated rain shell is just icing on the cake - I happened to get into rain the other day, and not only the rain shell protected my pack, it also prevented all this mud from landing on my wind breaker. It was much easier to clean up my gear after the trip.

Comments about CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

I was reluctant to purchase the HAWG due to it large size, but needed something to pack my gear for 8-24 adventure races. Was I surprised when I first used this in comparison to my 9 year old Blowfish which has seen many hours of riding. The airflow through the NV backing is amazing. And despite its size, the wight distribution and new antidote bladder are far superior and this pack just feels great. No "sloshing" and its easy to move around. I can't imagine ever using another pack of a different design again. The HAWG doesn't feel heavy and has the advantage of holding a ton of gear, perfect for long days in the saddle or on foot.

Only a few minor quibbles keeping this from five stars. The valve tube seems a bit short - not significant, but just an inch or two. Also, and this is design issue I've noticed on many Camelbaks, the tube seems to enter the bladder on the wrong side so you have to wrap it around inside the pack; it's just awkward.

We use this as my wife's bug out bag as she is a kidney transplant patient, so we have a weeks worth of medication in it, water, extra clothes etc. It is light, roomy, comfortable to wear. Not often you can find all that in a pack.

I like it but it was not designed for someone with broad shoulders. The straps dig into your back/shoulders and if worn for a long time becomes quite uncomfortable. It's something to do with pulling the straps out further digs the connector buckle into your shoulder.

If you are a mountain biker that hikes as well this is great you can get off the bike and it comes with a pocket designed to store a helmet while you hike. Great designed pack and I will get much use out of it!!!
