The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I use this product to keep hot coffee hot and have not been let down yet. To measure heat retention I did a bit of an impromptu experiment at home as follows:
Preheat thermos with boiling water (212 degrees F) for 10min and then drain.
Refill thermos with boiling water again, cap tightly and place in 40 degree F fridge for exactly 4hrs.
Upon removing from fridge I used 2 seperate food grade meat thermometers to measure the liquid temperature.
Results: The liquid was a steamy 180 degrees F after 4hrs in a 40 degree refridgerator.
Great product!

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I bought two of these thermoses some years ago, one for me and one for the hubby. We don't use them that often because it's usually not so cold that we wouldn't rather celebrate a peak experience with a cold beer rather than hot tea, but we used them everyday last weekend when the weather turned cold, with temps in the mid-20s and gale winds at the high points. We brought the thermoses with us, tucked into the outside pockets on our packs in place of one water bottle. At lunch, the first time I took my thermos out, it was so cold I thought my hand would stick to it, so I was amazed (and almost burned my tongue) when my tea came out scalding hot. Our tea was still piping hot at the end of the day, when we finished off the remainder back at the car. After three days of such excellent service by our thermoses, I decided they deserved a review.
Each morning before breakfast I filled the thermoses with boiling water and secured the tops. After breakfast I dumped the water, poured in more boiling water and threw in the tea bags, put on the tops, and let them steep while we got everything loaded in the car, then squeezed out the tea bags, secured the tops and off we went, with hot tea all day long (and still warm the next morning when I poured the previous day's tea out).
These are wonderful, robust thermoses that keep liquids hot, are not too heavy, don't retain flavors and don't leak but they aren't indestructible: they dent (no surprise) and the metal part of one of the tops detached from the plastic inside. I was going to see if I could return the thermos with the broken top for a new one at REI, but now that I see that our nice brushed stainless steel model would be replaced by the current orange model, I think I'll try glue first.

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I am very impressed with this item. I filled it with hot tea approx. 7:20am and when I arrived home and had some tea about 7:30pm, the tea was still very hot. I was outdoors for the most day and it was cold and windy, but that didn't affect the performance of this thermos.
Thank you REI for another great product.

I've had mine for five years and love it! After a year I bought the big one and then later the commuter cup. Whether I am in the field, lab, or giving a lecture I have at least one of them with me. They are light, durable, and very effective. I cannot believe I went so long without one. I even take my bullet with me on my road bike for long rides and it has dings and dents to prove it. It is worth every penny I paid for it. Great job REI!

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I replaced an insulated mug with this thermos so I could bike to work without my tea spilling.
Full, the bottle is heavy enough to off-balance my pack if I stick it in the outside bottle holders (at least while biking; it probably wouldn't matter so much on a hike), so I stuff it in the main body of the pack however it fits and have had no trouble with leaks.
I usually fill it up in a hurry in the morning without pre-heating the bottle with hot water, and the liquid still stays hot.
Good capacity if you consistently sip your hot drink all morning; if you need drinks for all day I'd go with the larger model.
Minor complaint: the paint seems to chip easily; I haven't been rough on this bottle yet and there is already a chip and a scratch on the lid, but this doesn't affect performance.

I use this thermose at least 5 days a week for the last 6 months to bring hot coffee to work on my bike. No spills, no leaks, and stows easily in back pack, pannier or car cup holder. There have been plenty of times where I've forgotten to finishes it off an 12 hours later it's still warm enough to be good coffee. After a few weeks of use I started getting request from co-workers to pick them up one next time I was at REI.

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I love this thermos. Beware the size - half a liter is only the 4 cup mark on my coffee maker - enough to fill two mugs.
I have to let my coffee cool after I pour it or I will burn my tongue. 12 hours later the coffee is definitely warm enough to enjoy.
Cleaning is a big deal with these. I don't put in creamer or sugar to help avoid scum or other hard to clean stuff. Black coffee cleans out very easy. Plastic cleans easy enough and is fairly taste neutral.

Comments about REI Bullet Vacuum Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I have looked at getting one for a few months before I actually bought one. I have used mine for over a year now and have a pretty god idea about this thing. All I can say is wow. I always pre-heat my bottles while my water is boiling for tea. This tends to keep the drink hot/ warm so long it is almost ridiculous. My record on having tea at a drinkable level of warm is 27/28 hours. Granted at this time frame it was barely warm enough to be drinkable but it was warm. I sometimes find .5 liters too small for capacity but I love my tea and believe that more is always better. I tend to use mine for school and short day trips. I have never tried to backpack with it. I will put it to that test this summer I hope. My only complaint is that the pain flakes easily and the REI logo seemed to start wearing off with the first washing. These are minor cosmetic defects only. I love this bottle though and will be investing in more in the future

I found this bottle on sale and decided to give it a shot. I've used it hunting/camping and my coffee stayed hot all day in sub-freezing temps. I also use it for work for those late afternoon home coffee pick me ups (the supplied coffee at work is terrible!). In the work instance the coffee came out steaming (of course it came out steaming when i was outside camping in the cold!). The directions say to preheat the bottle for atleast 10 minutes with boiling water, i 100% suggest doing that if your going out in the cold. Once again REI has supplied a lower priced highest quality item!
