I am new to road biking and clipless pedals and wasn't ready to commit to a full on, ultra stiff road bike shoe with a slick sole and external cleats, so these were a good starter shoe for me. They are a big upgrade from the running shoes I used to wear with the platform pedals on my old hybrid bike - the sole is much stiffer which, combined with the SPD clip-on pedals on my new bike, makes a huge difference in pedaling efficiency and foot comfort over the long haul. Plus, they are super comfortable and easy to walk in due to recessed cleats and tread on the bottom (nice if you want to get off your bike to run an errand or something). They do run small, however. I'm a women's size 7.5, usually take a 38 or 39 in Euro sizes but needed a 40 in this shoe.

This is a nice shoe except the sole is softer than most Pearl Izumi shoes. It would be best for the beginner or very casual cyclist.

I tried on a lot of road bike shoes, and this pair stood out as the most comfortable. I normally wear a 39, but had to go with a 40, but they fit like a glove. I got the cycling shop people to install my cleats onto the shoes, but the cleats themselves were easy to adjust to my riding position. I wish they had a better binding system than the velcro closure, but it works well, and for [$], you can't beat the quality of these shoes!
