The Petzl Tikka XP 2 Core headlamp features a powerful beam with 3 brightness levels and a rechargeable battery that lets you customize the headlamp performance for nearly any activity.

Includes the Petzl Core lithium-ion polymer 900 mAh rechargeable battery that can be recharged up to 300 times, making it equivalent to more than 900 AAA alkaline batteries
Download OS by Petzl software to modify functionality of your headlamp; select regulated or unregulated output and adjust settings to affect battery life and light intensity
Single high-output LED provides even, white lighting throughout your field of vision with no blank spots in the beam; advanced optics optimize the reach of the beam to 46m
Red LED positioned to the side of the white LED lets you preserve your night vision or use the headlamp as a blinking light to increase your visibility in urban environments
Push-button switch easily changes between 3 white lighting modes (high, low and flashing) so you can choose the appropriate light level for the task at hand
Also change between 2 red lighting modes (continuous and blinking)
Standard USB connection allows the Core battery to be recharged from any USB charger, such as a computer, a solar panel or a portable energy source (all sold separately)
Can also be recharged from a cell phone charger, a car's 12-volt socket or a wall outlet with appropriate adapters (includes wall adapter only)
When headlamp is used in regulated mode, battery provides up to 35 hrs. of use with high-output LED on low and 4.5 hrs. on high
Battery recharges in about 3 hrs.
Design allows the Core battery to be replaced by 3 AAA alkaline, lithium or NiMH rechargeable batteries (sold separately)
Spring-assisted, flip-up diffuser lens changes beam shape from spotlight to area light for different conditions
Hold down the on/off switch to change between red and white lighting modes
Provides IPX4 water resistance for reliability in inclement weather
Headlamp tilts to point light where you need it; adjustable elastic headband holds the light securely in place and includes an integrated signal whistle for emergency use
Compatible with the Petzl Adapt Tikka 2 system (sold separately), which lets you quickly and easily attach the light in a variety of places

I have had other less expensive head lamps and they worked, but not for long as I am hard on electronics. The other problem is the batteries wore out quickly. This unit caught my eye because of the rechargeable battery. I also liked that I could charge it off of my computer or car 12v ((I have a usb plug for an old PN-20 GPS)) I have used this one for camping, hiking, hunting, working on the car, and recently remodeling. This lamp has been worth its weight while crawling around in those deep recesses of my attic trying to run new wire. I actually carry it with me where ever I go. Very happy with it and may buy another.

I really love REI, and I am sort of a headlamp nerd, so I had asked for this particular lamp for christmas. My wife got it for me, and gave it to me early because we'll be traveling, and I might have used it cross-country skiing. Very unfortunately, upon opening it from the box, the main cool feature of this product, the charger, crumbled in my wife's hands as she helped me open it. Wow. And if one of the higher end models has this kind of quality to it . . .

I've only have this lamp for 24hours….and love it more than any lamp I've used before…
I live without electricity and require a headlamp at all times! I have had over 10 different lamps in the last 5 years!!! All of them drain rechargeable batteries fast! I've also tried using non rechargeable batteries…but the lamps drain them so fast too…maybe because I use it all of the time? This lamp, Pelzl Tikka XP Core has a rechargeable battery- and an option to use AAA batteries! It also has additional options that I don't have. I charged it the minute it arrived- lights glow when it is ready….I also took it apart because it comes apart… It is scary at first to take it apart because it feels like you are going to break it-but it is meant to come apart…. The light is so bright and when I need light in a room I take it off my head place it on a table and it lights up the room!!!! I think this model is great so far!! I hope the battery lasts a long time! I think it is worth the money! I'll write more as I use it and explore the battery life.
