After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Marin Muirwoods 29er Bike - 2011:

I wasn't used to the speed of this bike, having ridden cheap mt. bikes, on my first ride I cut a turn so fast I took out a pine tree and crashed pretty hard. The 29er wheel with the thin 70+psi tire I can sustain +20 mph to work for over an hour. My commutes are down one hill and up another so I wanted good breaks with less maintenance. I can stop on a dime or put the tires on a skid. I cannot go back to the old breaks now. I'm sold on disc breaks for everyday use. The break pads and tires could do at least another 2k miles. For the money I have never found the Muirwoods equal with disc breaks and other features.

Comments about Marin Muirwoods 29er Bike - 2011:

I bought this as my first Hybrid, switching from an old Olmo MTB and an old Raleigh racing street bike. I ride the towpaths and Rails to Trails these days and this more upright position with fast wheels is a treat! I agree with other reviews about disc brakes. I had some noise problem with the front derailuer which may be too narrow for the triple crank. Othewise I've enjoyed several fast rides on the trails and shopping in town as well

Comments about Marin Muirwoods 29er Bike - 2011:

This bike gets me from Bayside Queens to Manhattan everyday its a rough 13 miles and the bikes steel frame and 29" tires smooths out the ride and endures the abuse NYC has to offer. It handles well despite the 29'ers and once your moving with speed the bike keeps it.

Comments about Marin Muirwoods 29er Bike - 2011:

I use this as my everyday commuter. Although the bike is a little heavy it rides so nice. The steel frame and fork along with the 29er tires really smooth out the ride. Momentum is great as long as you have it, the 29 wheels really roll well. Good components too, including Hayes mechanical disc brakes which work quite well. I'm very happy with this bike and the overall ride quality.

At about 30.5 lbs. with pedals it's not the lightest commuter out there, but you can't beat the smooth ride and feel of steel!
