Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2011:
This is a really great bike! It climbs really well uphill and is super fast. Even on a high gear, it climbed up hills with little effort on my part. The brakes are good, and the gears shift with little noise. The wheels are thin and really help build up speed, and I was even faster on this bike than my friend on his professional racing bike.
Best of all, the Fairfax is super lightweight. Even my younger sister could lift it!
Overall, this is a great bike and I would definitely buy this bike again.

Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2011:
[...].So the bike handle pretty well. It is more of a road bike than an hybrid but the adjustable flat handle bar is a great feature which allow to ride higher up.The bike seems feather light to me. Good mix of 6061 aluminum, composite and carbon. This bike is 80% used to go to work (10+ miles each way) and it does the job perfectly. The 20% is grocery shopping and running errands in town.I was using an hybrid from a friend and the ride was 50 to 55 minutes long. With this bike it takes me 40 to 45. I might be more exited to ride it and I might be trying harder but I do feel like this bike helps a lot! I hope to ride this bike daily when I am more in shape...The only cons that I could think of is its price. I got a special discount because of an issue with another order + 10% off because of the REI membership which make it more affordable. I hope it is helpful if you consider this item.

Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2011:
Overall I am very pleased. I had to do a bit of tweaking to the front derailleur to reduce chain rub. Eventually I plan to replace the fd as it is the weakest part offering on the bike. I am also not crazy about the brake levers, but since they are integrated with the shifters not much to do about that. It may just be that I am too used to a two-finger style v-brake lever. These levers are long and straight. Stopping power is fine, but the feel is a bit spongy. There is more flex than I would like in the crank. Meaning mashing gears in the big ring does introduce a tiny bit of chain rub. The reflectors it came with seriously imbalanced the wheels at high speeds. I removed them and problem solved. The wheels have taken daily moderate bumps and potholes without losing true. The adjustable stem can creak under stress, but tightening it eliminated 95% of it. With all the tweaks I've had to make I question the work of the REI mechanic who built this up.
Other thoughts: I was also looking at the GT Tachyon, but couldn't find one around to test ride.
