Awesome walking/hiking shoes -- lightweight, good traction. I had the same problem that others did, with the lace coming through the looped eyelets when I tried some ambitious tightening one day, and thought they were ruined. Then I decided to improvise -- just cut and removed the lace, sliced the rest of the rubberized loops off with a sharp blade, and punched holes through the leather with an X-Acto knife to be able to run a regular shoelace through the remaining rubber eyelets on the shoe. They fit better than ever and I don't need to worry about snapping the remaining eyelet loops. I bought two remaining pairs on clearance and may just cut the loops off immediately so as not to worry about them snapping. That tightening system is badly designed, but the rest of the shoe is so well done that I'm ecstatic with them overall.

I don't like hiking boots unless I plan on being in the snow or muddy conditions, but I love trail running shoes for all of my hiking adventures. This is my second pair of Hi-Tecs (I don't recall the model of the last pair), but I loved the last pair so much I didn't even hesitate to get these. I think the fit is true, they are comfortable, and they sure take a beating. Although I haven't had these for very long, the last pair lasted for 2 years of regular use. Pushing through rivers in the rain forest, hiking through Yosemite, smashing asphalt around town, Hi-Tec does it all, and at a price that can't be beat.

The shoe was comfortable, but the lacing system broke within a month of using them. I exchanged the first pair and the same thing happened within a month. I would never buy or recommend these shoes.

I bought these shoes at the REI Outlet. I was looking for a shoe that I could take on business trips - short runs or used in the hotel gym. They never seemed to break in. I could feel the cement with every step.

My fault for buying on looks. I returned them and bought Salomons. Paid twice as much (which is a different conversation) but I know they fit and will last.

Was very excited to get these. Upon arrival, the shoe was very light weight and felt great! However, two days after first wearing the shoe, the lace pulled through the grommet on the right shoe. The same thing happened to the left shoe in two places a day later. Why would they use such cheap plastic to keep the lacing system to the shoe? other than that they were fantastic. Just don't plan to need to have them tight on your feet for long.

Shoes are comfy for a cheap trail runner but YOU WILL rip through the laces. I bought them because I loved the lacing system on salomans runners. These do not compare!

These shoes started to fall apart after only 4 runs. The lacing system looks great but when you pull it tight the rubber grommets that hold the laces rip in half leaving you with a shoe that cant be tightened. If you like this lacing style do yourself a favor and buy Salomons
