The Marmot Gravity soft-shell jacket offers a high level of water resistance and warmth and good breathability. It works best during intermittent aerobic activities in cold and wet weather.
- 4-way stretch soft-shell fabric is bonded to a polyester fleece lining for weather resistance, abrasion resistance and easy mobility
- Full-length draft flap backs the front zipper to keep cold air out; collar and chin guard are lined with soft, moisture-wicking DriClime® fabric
- Adjustable cuffs and drawcord hem seal in body heat

This is my first Marmot garment, but I'll definitely be buying more based on my experience with this jacket. I had been considering the North Face Apex Bionic Jacket, but after trying them both the Marmot was the clear choice for me.
I ride a motorcycle and I bought the Gravity Jacket to layer it under my leather jacket to add warmth and protection from wind in cold weather. This one fits comfortably without being too bulky or too tight. It looks great on its own, but also functions easily as a middle layer. The cut of the sleeves works well for riding (that's a tall order) so I'm betting it's also good for more vigorous activity without hampering movement.
When riding at 55mph in 40° weather, I can't even feel the cold on my chest (it used to sneak in through the zipper on my leather jacket). The zipper of the Gravity has an extra backing seam of softshell which keeps out the wind. And since the accessory pocket is on the sleeve rather than the chest, the main body of the jacket has no breaches through which wind can get in. The fleece lining is just thick enough to be comfy, even if I'm wearing a short sleeve shirt underneath.
Bonus: the zipper has a small fleece cover at the top to protect the neck from being pinched or rubbed raw when the jacket is zipped up all the way. That kind of attention to detail makes this jacket "go to eleven." (h/t: Spinal Tap)

I am on my second Gravity jacket now. People compliment the jacket all the time, and I had my first one stolen. I guess this is a form of flattery? I was first turned on to Marmot by a friend who told me about their impeccable service. They replaced his jacket without question after it started to fray slightly. I live in Minnesota and wore it through two winters now,virtually everyday. It is perfect for outdoor activities in the snow, i.e. shoveling snow or snowboarding. It has great flexibility and it is light, but still does a great job blocking the wind and keeping you dry. As I do with most of my coats, I buy them a little big so I can shove a sweatshirt or sweater underneath when it is colder. A medium fits well, but I buy large. It's also versatile, I use it for physical activities, but it also looks professional for business. I start wearing it in the fall and go straight through to the spring, so it works when it's not too cold too. It's easy to pack away too. Versatility is a big virtue in anything I buy. Marmot's more expensive, but when I can use it in almost any scenario, it's worth the extra cost. Not to mention, they stand behind the product. I must have drank some Marmot Kool-Aid at some point because I can't stop recommending the brand to anyone who cares to listen to me rave about my coat.

Wear it around town, back and to work, evenings after snowboarding, etc., -- generally as single outerwear layer. Size M fits well for 6.0 ft person, 160 lb. Adjustment for wrist and waist are useful and well designed.
There is space for a light sweater as a mid layer if necessary. Warm enough for temperatures near 32F or 0C by itself.
For more vigorous athletic activities, the more expensive versions with pit zips and hood are recommended.
The label "MARMOT" on the front left is a bit large -- Marmot should simply use their icon/symbol and be subtle about it. They also have the Marmot icon on the right sleeve.

Product arrived in an unopened package. this is better than buying from the store where many people have tried it on and the jacket has hair and fuzz on it. More choice of colors when buying from the website.

This is a great jacket that can be worn in a variety of activities. I purchased the jacket in "black" and it appears to be more of a dark charcoal-gray, but I actually like the color. The front pockets are big and zippered, but the pocket on the left arm is a bit awkward to access and use. My only complaint is that the bicep area of the sleeves is tight and anyone with 20+ inch biceps will experience difficulty with this (the only practical issue is that when I wear short sleeves, my sleeves get stuck when putting the jacket on and I have to tuck them back in). The jacket is very warm and can be worn in a variety of conditions, but if you are active when wearing it and sweat, the fleece lining will stick to your arms (if you wear short sleeves). The fit is great and looks very form fitting. The sleeve cuffs are adjustable, which is nice for when you want it tight or loose. The jacket is also very water repellent - I woundn't wear it in a rain storm, but in a light rain this jacket will keep you warm and dry!

I use this jacket mostly in the fall and before the snow flies. The rain just slides right off, keep me completely dry. I wish it was just a little warmer, but if you're moving around, it'll do the job in temps over 30 degrees.
I haven't washed it yet, but so far, it's very 'crinkly' and a bit stiff.
