Rated4out of5byLil-bita-everythingfromEverything I was looking forI was looking for a new ski jacket when I came across Marmot's Vertical Shell. I wanted a softshell with all the pockets and a powder skirt. Bam! It looks cool. Fits great. Easy for my friends to spot me on the slopes. Easily accessible pockets for everythiing I need to carry outside of a backpack. Still need to layer on chillier days but that's a given, and after skiing it's a great jacket to wear around town. Check it out.

Rated5out of5byGary BfromTop quality, versatile, well designedJust what I was looking for. Top quality material, nice details and finish. Long enough to cover shirt tails when they are worn outside, but not long enough to interfere with sitting. Hood zipper receiver on jacket tucks away nicely so its not exposed when hood is removed. Sleeves feel just a little long, but I may be happy with that when I get around to using it skiing (in not-too-cold weather). Although very lightweight, I feel warm enough using it with a good long sleeve shirt down into freezing conditions. My first jacket with pit-zips, seems to help keep things drier while staying reasonably warm during light exercise. I also have a heavy-weight Marmot jacket I've had for over a decade and it has help up extraordinarily well.

Rated4out of5byheistkafromNice for an entry-level Marmot productOverall the jacket is fantastic. It repels water and wind as much as you could hope that a 4-way stretchy polyester material could. It is super comfortable in both mild and extreme conditions. The pit zips come in handy in milder weather, or when looking to cool off after a burst of activity. It has pockets in all of the right places, and the removable storm hood is a nice touch. I have just one main complaint about the jacket. There are snaps on each side to fasten the snow skirt to when not in use. The snow skirt zips out for when not in use, so i'm not sure what the snaps really add. When the snow skirt is zipped into place but not fastened together in front, it doesn't seem to get in the way. Another downfall to these snaps is the backsides of both of them are in each of the front pockets. Every time you put glove-less hands in the pockets you feel these two freezing cold pieces of metal touching you. Do away with the auxiliary snaps.
