Comments about Mountainsmith Zoom Camera Case - Medium:
I'm an avid backpacker and finally decided to start hiking with my D70 and a tripod, since it only adds 5 lbs 2 oz to my pack and I always regret not having a real DSLR on the mountain.
So on the way to my last trip I picked this thing up. Overall it's pretty great... It does it's job, fits in my pack just fine (or on my chest, though the straps could be better), and does a good job at protecting the camera from mild bumps and bruises. Plus it's got the usual Mountainsmith durability and good looks.
My issues, aside from the straps (no biggie) are that it unzips towards you when wearing it, which I find odd to do or confusing when you're fatigued. With an 18-70mm lens the camera fits fine in the bag, but my 70-300 zoom has to go in a separate bag... Mountainsmith makes one, what a coincidence.
In the wintertime, throw a handwarmer in the camera case and your shutter won't freeze up... This pack keeps the heat in for a while, which is a bonus for us in colder climates.
Overall a great buy, there isn't too much better on the market that fits this purpose (minimalist durable camera bag that can chest mount) even from other vendors. A silicone shockproof shell for the camera is always a good addition, though.
