Comments about Big Agnes Slide Mountain SL3 Tent - '09 Closeout:
So far this has been a great tent. My main use for this tent is hiking and camping with my wife and 2 90lb Golden Retrievers.
Bought to replace an older/heavier REI Mountain Convert and compared with the Quarter Dome T3, Marmot Limelight 3 and Marmot Aeros 3 before buying.
Setup is fairly straight forward but takes a little longer than some other similair style tents due to the connection systems on the poles.
The BOA system tightens the wall and fly of the tent once it's set up like it is made to, but really isn't necessary even in a heavy rain.
The weight is about a pound more than some of the other tents I looked at, but it's worth it to me for the added privacy of the raised fabric sides plus it's easier for our dogs to damage netting than fabric so this works better for us. The 2 doors was also a must with our dogs.
The design is nice, the height is perfect for me and the verticle walls make it so it comfortably sleeps us and our 2 dogs. We can fit all our gear as well when hiking but it makes it a little cramped that way. The floor fabric is a bit thin and initially I was worried about the dogs ripping it but it has held up well so far. We do use the groundcloth to protect the underside.
Plenty of storage pockets, good ventilation with or without the rainfly on. I also really like the design of the rainfly allowing the vestible to be staked up.
