Comments about Timbuk2 Command Laptop Messenger Bag - Large:
I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect laptop messenger bag. I wanted something that was not only practical and met all of my work needs, but was also somewhat stylish and would not stand out in my work environment.
I think this bag does a nice job of meeting most of my requirements. The best features are the TSA Compliant laptop area, large main pocket, secondary pocket for files, and all of the extra little pockets and zippered areas for storing things. Some people have complained on other websites about the strap setup on this bag, but I find it pretty clever. When doing lots of walking, I like to keep the bag up high on my back and I can easily adjust the bag to that. But with one flick of either the quick adjust tab or the memory buckle, I can take the bag easily off my back without messing up my hair. (Sounds silly, but it is really handy).
My only complaint about this bag is that for the money, I would like to have seen a little more padding in the laptop sleeve. The sleeve has this "studded" padding in there, which Timbuk2 says protects the bag. I feel this bag has no more, but no less padding than most messenger bags on the market. It doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see more!

Comments about Timbuk2 Command Laptop Messenger Bag - Large:
Fit my Dell 17" Studio 1749. Just barely. I didn't want a backpack, as I find these too deep to keep organized during travel. The wider top opening suits me better.
There are lots of pockets for little things. The side open zipped pocket that is useful for keeping thing you need to get to quickly. I usually put my boarding pass there until I have to enter the terminal jetway.
There is a large compartment for stuff, that has some organizers. I bought a couple of "dimebag" pouches to add some extra organization. It came with some things for holding things like pens and stamps (not really all that useful). In addition, there are 2 flat compartments one zippered for papers and the other open for stuff like magazines or a tablet/e-reader.
Under the flap are three pockets. They are tiered and stacked. So the top one is the biggest with a lanyard for your keys and the other 2 being medium and small. You can store earbuds, an mp3 player and other stuff there.Under these pockets is the aforementioned side pocket.
On the underside is a pocket for your power supply. Which is nice, since you don't have to dig through stuff in the large compartment.
The computer compartment unzips for when you have to put it in the x-ray. Padding is modest but, it this has the benefit of keeping the bag from being overly bulky. It works for me. But, don't think it will protect your computer if you throw it across the room.
The top handle is only useful when you pick up the bag off the x-ray conveyor. There is a side handle but, make sure the side pocket is zipped because it's on the opposite side and your stuff will end up on the floor.
I like the strap. It has a clip if you need to snug the bag to your back tightly. Very efficient. You can quickly unclip it when you need to take it off. I didn't like the stock strap pad. It was kind of narrow for a bag with a 9 lb computer and a bunch of stuff in it. I added the Deluxe Strap Pad to which you can attach other accessories.
My only complaint would be that I needed to buy extra organizer pouches and the strap pad. I would have preferred a couple of those dimebag pouches over the pen holders. You can stick your pens in the smallest zippered pocket under the flap. The dimebags were considerably more pricey than 10 cents. You can easily spend $50 on accessories. The bag isn't cheap in the first place and options make even more pricier.
Even with my complaints, this is a great bag for a large laptop. I can always find a good place to store small items. And the large compartment can easily store folded clothes for night over trip if you want to go light.

Comments about Timbuk2 Command Laptop Messenger Bag - Large:
I purchased this bag prior to a month-long trip to Ethiopia. It worked wonderfully to protect my electronics. It is large enough to hold everything I needed it to and was wonderfully organized. It even has a hidden compartment that was great to place my money in and feel safe that it would take a lot of work for someone to discover it. Pleased with my purchase. Has now become my everyday bag.

I love the bag! In hind-sight, being able to securely close it with a zipper may have been a better option for me.
