Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots to use for everything I like to do outdoors. They have not let me down. They are medium weight, warm, and have great traction. They are extremely comfortable and can be worn for long periods of time. They have great ankle support. They are also wel built and very durable.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Oh, they're waterproof alright. Outside AND inside. All the moisture from normal wear got trapped inside the boot and caused mayhem. Within three days of routine use and airing out, moisture was seeping out through the leather. Within a month of normal wear and rotation, the boots were spongey damp inside and foul-smelling. The only solution was to cut out the goretex lining, add ventilation holes and let them air out for a week with cedar chips and lysol treatments. I could not imagine taking these on a long hiking or hunting trip. The dryness/warmth of goretex was not worth the tradeoff. These rugged boots were useless within 90 days. Sad-face for North Face.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Took these boots to the Sierra's last year & Yosemite. Both trips were approximately 30 & 45 miles, respectively. Within a couple of hours hot spots were developing - ended up getting heel blisters on both trips, requiring constant attention. Prior to both trips I used the boots on 3-5mi. hikes multiple times to loosen the leather with no problems developing. Going to give them another try this season, but if after 75miles of hard backpacking and they still don't loosen up I will get a synthetic boot. However, functionally this is a universal boot for all conditions which is why I selected them in the beginning.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Let me start out by saying that I used to be a walking northface billboard, nearly everything thing i owned had a northface logo on it! I originally bought these boots at my local REI. I got them because of their comfort and good balance between price and features, e.g. comfort, stability, waterproofing. The boots feel great and they never gave me a blister, my feet have never hurt after wearing them even with 60 lb back and 8 hour hiking. But, and this is a big but, I took my boots on a 45 mile hike through the Olympic Mountain chain and they broke on the first day, a short 8 mile jaunt. The black rubber part of the boot cracked and split forming a gash about 2 inches long. I hadn't ever really used the boots before this day and would estimate the total mileage on them to be less than 15 miles before they failed. Yes, I was upset. I had grown attached to these boots and they represent a significant investment for me as I am a student and live by meager means. I fedexed my boots to northface, [...]and requested a rush decision. Good news is they agreed that the boots failed due to defects in the product. Bad news they didn't tell me my replacement boots were on back order for a month and a half. I finally called northface after several weeks without word on my order status and they told me that the quickest way to get reimbursed was to have them issue a gift card. Okay, then the gift card takes a week to get here. I used my card at northface.com to buy my boots but I now had to pay for another [...] All in all i spent [$] on a pair of boots worth half as much. Northface could have told me there was a northface store less than ten miles from my house where i could pick up a new pair immediately and not have to spend more money on a pair of boots that shouldn't have failed in the first place. I contacted northaface customer services to complain about all this and the lady made me feel as if i didn't have a reason to complain, like this was business as usual. All northface products are now considered unreliable and unworthy of purchase.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was in the market for some new hiking boots, I saw these and thought they were exactly what I wanted, plus they were on sale so I went for it. When I got them I couldn't be happier, sure they were in need of a good break-in period, but they were awesome. Then, after wearing them three times, one of the lace hook things (I'm not sure what to call them) pulled loose from the boot. I only wore them three time and just around campus trying to break them in. I didn't abuse them in any way, they just broke. [...] If the lace eyelet things (again, I don't know what they're called) weren't faulty these would be awesome boots. Disappointing.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
This is the only piece of NorthFace gear I own. I selected this boot for the ankle support, as I've injured both of mine and one of them multiple times and suffer along with permanent damage.
My assessment of the boot;
Very stiff until broken in. Do not wait to buy this boot the day before you go out into the forest or on a long hike. I had to break mine in for a few weeks they were so stiff. The good news is; this is exactly what I needed. Now I have broken in boots, that provide great ankle support. I haven't tested this boot too too long, but I've hiked, camped and hunted in them for probably a total of 45 to 50 days. The more I wear them, the more I love them. I would recommend this boot, especially to anyone with ankle issues such as myself. The thin rubber that is glued up onto the leather has pealed away a small amount, but this doesn't change anything about the boots or how they perform. In fact, if I had to guess, I'd say this is a sacrificial piece of rubber intended to lengthen the life of the leather.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Comments about The North Face Jannu II GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots were my first, "The North Face Purchase", and I am shocked at the response other REI members are rewarding them. I am a rugged person so the weight and stiffness of the product does not bother me. I feel confident on the trail especially rocky terrain where the construction excels. Not one day has the boot felt uncomfortable and I have never come close to getting a blister, aided with a good quality sock of course. I enjoy wearing them so much I were them more than any other shoe I own.

TNF makes great gear. These boots are for the niche of heavy load hiking. They are stiff, and so you need to break them in like any stiff backpacking boot. Took me about 2-3 weeks of daily short hikes after work.
