        This is the first smartwool product I have been disappointed in. Their arm warmers rock! But these do not. I bought the biggest size (L/XL) and they felt like mediums, so the material was all stretched out, showing my skin, and making me cold. Also the inside tuck stitch came apart after one use for 3 hours. I returned them.

              Never got to wear these out so can't comment on functional quality, but my housekeeper accidentally washed and dried them-- and now, well, they fit as arm warmers! so... yay?

              In any event- be warned-- DO NOT DRY!! They shrank an incredible amount.

              I hope yall have better luck with these!

              When these are around your knees they are incredibly warm, even though it seems they shouldn't be due to their light weight. They are so warm that the moment they start to fall down below the lower hem of my bike shorts my legs start to freeze. This happens sometimes while biking and every time while walking. I would give these five stars if they only stayed up. Consider them if you're a biker who never has to dismount, but look for other options if you do any walking of your bike.

              I ride mtn and road 3-4 days a week. I love Smartwool products and will continue to use them, one of the claimed benefits being that they are machine washable.
              These have been through the wash probably a half dozen times before the folded top stitching went out entirely on one.
              Otherwise they stay up fairly well. They may tear the first time you catch a branch, and they dry about as well as wool...of course. But they keep you warm even when wet and don't stink. Given the right application and care, they rock.

                These have kept my knees and lower legs warm in temps as low as 38 degrees. In freezing weather, they make an effective layer under full length tights. Although they stretch so that skin seems visible through the knits, they are still warm and block the wind. I like that they roll to a very compact "ball" for storage in my jersey pocket.

                  I have arthritis of the knees. The most amazing thing is that my knee pain goes away when I wear them; I guess it is a combination of the compression and warmth. Best [$] I've ever spent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
