Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 2 Tent:

The huge fly can also be used as a canopy using poles or sticks so i figured I'd try it out and see if it was large enough to cook under and stay dry the next time I got caught in the rain. Low and behold spring backpacking in Ohio with the wife and 2 small dogs we wake up to rain. I find a couple sticks and use some cord to stake out the vestibule as a canopy and it worked perfect. After cooking breakfast and watching it rain for a while I decided I should right a review about how revolutionary this new vestibule/canopy design is. We kept our packs out under the sides flaps and they staid dry also. Revolutionary.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 2 Tent:

I just got back from a winter hiking trip using this tent, overall I am happy but there are a few things I would change.I don't know how well it works in the rain I haven't had that experience yet. When I look at the design, I feel pretty good about how it would hold up. The tent floor seam is about 6-8 inches up the side of the tent, i'm guessing you'd float away before any water got in. I bought this tent specifically for cooler weather. I could tell the side panels would hold in heat pretty well, and I was right. We were on the peak of a mountain in unusually gusty winds, the temp got down to the teens but my water reservoir in the tent did not freeze.Like I said, the winds were crazy and the tent didn't have any problems taking the abuse. My only complain is that the side that faced the wind kept compressing my sleeping bag (my girlfriend pinned me against the tent wall while she was sleeping) but the tent did not bend or twist or have any issues holding up to the wind. The rain fly and vestibule is great, it kept out all of the wind and was easy to attach. The tent cord has reflectors built into it so it looks like a bright shiny line when your headlamp hits it in the dark. This is great for two reasons; 1 - you can find the tent easily; B - the chance of acrobatics is greatly reduced when returning from that groggy midnight pee. Also, the inside pockets are mesh so you can actually see what's in there. I do have a couple of complaints though, it can be a [*] to set up and they should have color coded the poles. Being the uber paranoid geek that I am, I set it up in my living room first. It took me forever to figure out. Once I did, it made more sense but I still have my moments of frustration. The two sets of poles fit together very tightly, and you have to twist one pole quite a bit to get the other pole to fit. On top of that, one pole is an X and determining which way is up isn't intuitive (there is a tent clip that attaches to the "underside" of the pole.) I fixed this by using colored electrical tape so I know which side should go where. I own a Kelty 3 person tent and I think I could set that up about 20% faster than this one. I also purchased a Sea to Summit eVent (small) compression sack, which got the tent down to about the size of a football. We did have a hard time zipping the fly due to the tension on the tent walls, but not so much that it caused problems. One other thing to note, condensation builds up on the tent floor. It was cold, so luckily the condensation turned to frost instead of soaking my pad and bag. Overall I am very pleased with this tent, a few tweaks would make it perfect but i'm happy with it being 95% perfect.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 2 Tent:

My boyfriend and I just purchased the Lynx Pass 2 for a 5 day paddling trip in the boundary waters. With the added weight of canoes during portages, we were happy this spacious and easy to set-up tent came in at about 5 lbs. Not necessarily light weight by today's standards, but for the amount of space you get (two pads and light gear fit comfortably) it is well worth the extra pound or two. Our first night and day, we also experienced an unrelenting heavy rain storm on a camp site with a 20 percent grade--so all the water on the island ran and collected around our tents, but not a drop got in. Only gripe would be for more ventilation. The open top is great, but it doesn't really allow the breeze to filter through the whole tent when it gets warm and muggy. A trade-off for the privacy on group trips I guess.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 2 Tent:

this is a very solid tent. Although the tent is a little heavy at around 5 lbs, the tent is plenty large for two people, maybe even three if need be. This tent is also good for those cold nights with it only having a mesh part of the door and roof. I have had a slight problem with condensation but that is a problem every tent has.

Comments about Big Agnes Lynx Pass 2 Tent:

I've used the tent on one trip so far, but it was a bit of everything. Spent a week down in the Black Rock desert with snow, sun, and strong winds. This tent held up like a champ. No sign of any struggle dealing with the wind. The vestibule kept my gear safe and dry in the snow. Tent and fly together provided a nice spot to sit for a bit out of the wind and sun.

Pro: I'm a 6'4" guy, and this tent easily accomodates my laying down length, and I can sit up without being bothered.

Con(s): As a 6'4" guy, it's kindof hard to reach the zipper to open the door on the vestibule from the inside without getting down on your hands and knees (knees inside tent body, hands in dirt in vestibule). Perhaps a footprint that matched the vestibule would be better.

Note: I also bought the associated footprint. I'm pretty glad I did. When the desert gets wet like it did after the snow, it turns into really sticky nasty mud. The footprint kept the bottom of my tent nice and dry/clean.

2nd Note: Also, the mesh pockets on the inside top of the tent are great for a flashlight to illuminate the inside.

Overall: Way better than my last tent which was a large 4 person dome tent which collapsed in the wind and was a pain to set up by yourself.
