Shipping Information.The REI Lightweight Polartec® Power Dry® long-sleeve crew can be worn alone or used as a performance insulation layer.
- Polartec Power Dry utilizes 2 different yarns on either side of the fabric to enhance comfort: interior yarn wicks moisture, and exterior yarn dries quickly
- The combination of the 2 yarns helps keep you dry during highly aerobic activities because it moves moisture away from skin faster than single-component fabrics such as cotton
- Flatseam construction is soft and non-chafing next to skin, and seams are designed to work with pack straps at shoulders
- Underarm and side gussets promote freedom of motion
- Dropped back hem stays tucked in

I own 10 or more of the previous lightweight MTS long underwear shirts. This new model has a very different fit. The body is larger and the sleeves are not as fitted as the previous version. The fit is similar to snowboard style versus athletic/climbing/hiking/camping.

This new fabric sort of has a waffle weave and isn't quite as comfortable to wear. I loved the old fabric. It felt like a 1st layer undershirt and you weren't really aware of it. It kept me warm during winter soccer games or at the dog park. I used to recommend these undies to friends but won't be doing that ith this new style. BLAH! Bring the old stuff back.

I have one of the original design and one of this new waffle design. This new design absolutely sucks. DO NOT BUY IT! The original design was perfect...but REI has gone and ruined this product line with this awful product. It's been a year, people have complained, and yet...we're still stuck with this new design. CALL REI!!! Insist that the original design be available before Winter 2012!!!!

I bought three of these. When I put one on, I feel the need to see if I have it on backwards. The neck rides up on my throat and down my back. This is likely because the shoulder seam, normally on top of the shoulder, is forward of the shoulder. I suspect these shirts will make their way to my donation pile.

Wore these shirts in France under my REI breathable raincoat and the velcro on the coat was always catching on the shirts and has destroyed them on the first day I wore them. It pulled multiple pills/strands of material out of the shirt--like if you caught a sweater thread and pulled it out. I have 5 of the previous model short sleeve shirts that I wore almost every day but these are not well made. They let more air pass through them than the previous lightweight model. Fit is tighter through the chest than the previous model and rides up.

By far, my favorite lightweight long-sleeve base layer.
It wicks moisture and keeps cool like a champ. The sleeves maintain their shape despite being rolled up most of the time, and don't overly warm when they're down (such as to keep the mosquitos off in hot temperatures). The fabric does wear (especially after scraping on rock), but I've yet to have a hole and the black keeps the fuzzing fairly unnoticeable.
For the price, these things can't be beat.

This is a great product. I also love the Patagonia baselayer, but these fit me better. It is super light, looks good dry fast. It has just the right length and you can wear it as a t shirt (many baselayers are too long to do that), as a base layer or for cycling.
Slim fit, but long sleeves are just wide enough to allow rolling them up comfortably.
A great combo is also a short sleeve under a zippered long sleeve. Lots of variations possible.
However it is a light / lightweight product and of couse you should be careful with zippers and velcro. lol. I never had any problems with that, though.

Even after reading so negative reviews about this product I decided to give it a try and order the REI Lightweight Polartec Power Dry Long-Sleeve Crew neck T (in size L) and the MTS Zip-T (in size L-TALL). I figured that the regular size L would be short to my arms so I got both.
The regular L size fit just perfect and I have extra long arms. Usually I have to buy a size up just because of this reason. I was surprised to see that the proportions are well and it fits very well.
I was going to return the TALL one and get a regular fit Zip-T but I tested it over the crew neck on a backpacking trip and it is not that much long. I actually like it and plan on keeping it. Although the neck is a bit wider still keeps a close fit and works flawless for layering.
I spent two nights on the mountain under the stars wearing only these two for the hike and only the crew neck to sleep in while the temps reached the 27 degrees.
I'm very happy and please with this product and I'm ordering three more sets of them.

I wear this under shirts at work during the winter time for warmth and the sleeves are to bulky. I had two of last year's model and they fit much better (tighter around the wrist). I would not recommend them for this type of use.
