The women's REI Ultra Light women's jacket is ultra useful! Keep it in your pack or on your bike for sudden changes in the weather. It's lightweight and takes up almost no space.
- Ultra Light jacket packs inside its own pocket and offers 2-way stretch for comfort over layers; plus, the fabric is strong, abrasion resistant and quiet
- Lightweight Elements® 2.5-layer diamond ripstop nylon is waterproof, breathable and windproof to 60 mph; seams are sealed for complete protection
- Fully adjustable brimmed hood zips off or rolls up and secures via a tab; soft tricot-lined collar
- Full-length front zipper features a bonded placket that keeps wind and wet weather from penetrating; features rip-and-stick neck closure and hem snap closure
- Pit zips adjust venting; centered zippers prevent fabric from billowing in strong wind
- Drawcord hem and rip-n-stick cuffs hold heat in
- Zip hand and chest pockets; chest pocket has an earphone cord port and jacket zips into left-side hand pocket

I live in Oregon, so I can't let the rain and wind keep me from hiking. I needed a lighter jacket that keeps me dry but light enough to wear something underneath and not feel smothered. This jacket seems perfect! The only thing I didn't like was that I bought it on clearance and only the easter-egg purple color was available. :-) But it is a feminine cut and fits well.

This is my 'Go To' jacket/coat. I've had mine for several years in a champaign color and it is now falling apart ~ but not from lack of quality ~ it's just finally worn out on me. I started looking for a new one last year and was sorely disappointed with the color selection. I want something neutral but not dark, more of an earth color. The champaign color of mine was perfect with everything I wear but it's not offered now. Was told in my local store that they are discontinuing the coat/jacket but I don't see anything indicating that on the website.
This coat/jacket is great for wind and rain which is what our winters are made of around here. It's easy to layer underneath and has great ventilation if I get too warm. The only thing that make this an absolutely perfect jacket is if it had a THIN removable liner... but that might take away from the greatness of it.
PLEASE if any REI folks read this bring back some toned down colors! This is too great a coat to not offer it in more less bold colors without having to go black.
4 stars is because of color selection. I'd actually give it three because of color but it's just too good of a coat.

I got this for a more packable version of the longer one that I love. This is a bit more crinkly, and doesn't have a 2-way zipper, which is convenient. But, it is a great color, and makes a great windbreaker, rain jacket. The way the hood stows is awkward, it folds unevenly into a high stand-up collar.

I had to pick a lightweight, all purpose, all weather jacket and this jacket fit the bill! I found this jacket after looking online and in stores for a few days a week before my cruise to Alaska. I needed something that would be easy to carry, could handle mild weather and wind. Summertime in Alaska has nice weather but it can get cold and there's chances of rain so I needed something windproof and waterproof. This jacket was perfect! I got compliments from my family on it (bought the Berry color). The hood was a perfect fit for my head and had a nice bill on it. I was able to stuff it next to my camera in my camera bag when I wasn't using it. I wore it with a light sweatshirt and it worked out great for our excursions. I love the media pocket too! I'm a big girl (up top) and it didn't make me look too poofy or unshapely. LOVE LOVE LOVE this jcaket. Thanks REI!

Back packer my entire life. Just returned from a rainy trip to Costa RIca, during "rainy season" I used the jacket daily hiking, in mist, pouring rain, windy conditions, cloud forest, on boat...wonderful reliable. Inside pockets, outside pockets with zipper to keep moisture out.
Never needed to remove the hood, but, it could be easily done. The Jacket is light, fits into small day pack easily folds into a square the size of a hand
