I thought I'd get a compass just in case. After checking all compasses on REI and its outlet, I chose this one because I just want a no-nonsense inexpensive one.
Not disappointed after I got it. It is not big but big enough to read without putting on reading glasses. It seems tough enough to withstand rough treatment.
If you don't need all the other bells and whistle (literally), this is a good simple compass to take with you

This compass is exactly what I wanted and nothing I didn't. It's just big enough to read comfortably and has a rotating azimuth. Since I purchased it about a month ago, I've been taking it on every hike, attached to my trousers. I use it more than I thought I would, in conjunction with my GPS. I'm going to get another one for backup.
