Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
We used the "lander" on a canoe-in camping trip in the Adirondacks and it performed admirably heating water, making pancakes and frying fish. The temperature control isn't perfect, but can be adjusted enough to be workable. It might be a little heavy for backpackers, but I definitely like the versatility of the duel fuel. We used it with white gas because it is cheaper, and there is less waste (reusable fuel bottles). My only complaint is that I wish it came with a lined nylon case to store the fuel bottle/pump assembly in. The included case is nice, but only the stove and repair kit fits inside. Also, for some reason there were no instructions in our box. I went online where they were readily available on the mafg's website.

Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
The option to use generic butane gas canisters makes this fuel stove excellent value for both weekend and multi-day trips.
I have just performed performance tests with MSR pocket rocket for gas and whisperlite for white spirit and it is equivalent or better.
Build quality is excellent.
Slightly heavier but very solid.
Bargain at the moment. Package includes all accessories including windshield and a rather heavy maintenance tool

Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
This is the fourth pump-in-the-bottle white gas stove I've had and I continue to be impressed with it (I've had two MSR's and one Primus before this). With respect to size, weight, priming, efficiency one's almost as good as another however the things I love about this stove are the two fuel choices, the apparent craftsmanship that's evident in its design, and the fact that I've figured out how to make this thing simmer - sort of. Compared to the Brunton my former Whisperlite, which should be renamed 'soot whisperer', looks positively primitive. The Brunton looks as if it was designed by Mercedes. The fuel line is easily twice as long as the Whisperlite's and about a third smaller in diameter as well as way more flexible. The down side to the extra length in the fuel line is the extra time it takes for any flame control adjustment to actually affect the flame. But with use you learn to predict what's eventually going to happen in another 15 seconds. The trick to simmering is to turn the flame control down to the point where the stove is seriously sputtering and surging and then open it up a tiny bit to where it's just barely surging, and then leave it there. It will continue to wax and wane a bit but the heat output is such that you can actually simmer without scorching - but keep stirring anyway. One last tip - when shutting the stove off, lift the fuel bottle in the air so the remaining fuel in the line empties into the burner otherwise when you disconnect the fuel line you'll actually get to see how much fuel that line can accommodate as it empties all over your hand.

Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
This is my first white gas stove (and the first I've used in many years). It was easy to unpack & setup, easy to light and feels sturdy enough that my grandkids will be using it after I die. It gets plenty hot, but is a little hard to control at low flame - goes from off to pretty hot with very little movement of the valve. The design flaw is in the preheat tubing - if they'd just bent the tubing a small amount near where the hose connects, the unit would take up less space (and I wouldn't worry about catching in on something and maybe breaking it). All in all, it was well worth the sale price of just under $60 (compared to $120+ for similar stoves).

I haven't used many others, but this thing was perfect for us...
Works well, easy to use, really compact, and comes with a great carry sack and maintenance kit. No faults from me!

Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
I took the stove backpacking in the mountains. It worked pretty well, even though the temperatures were around 40 degrees. It boiled water fast. Only major con is that the cooking base is slightly too large to use for a soup can.

I have only used it with white gasoline but it worked very well. Primed easy and quickly and burned hot. Just make sure you have the legs fully extended before use.

So far I've not messed with the stove a whole lot. I tried isobutane and white gas. It simmers very well on either. The isobutane definitely has better flame control and is easier to use. The build quality is very good and I believe it will last a long time with proper care.

Comments about Brunton Lander Dual-Fuel Stove - '09 Overstock:
This is a good stove if you choose the proper fuel. I used if first with White gas and that makes for messy time consuming start ups not to mention that it really burns through the white gas fast so you end up needing to carry more weight than you'd like. By using the not so green friendly butane/propane disposable fuel bottle's you get easy starting and less fuel consumption at higher costs (both monetary and landfill).
