I bought this hoping it would charge my cell phone, Zune and a friends Ipod. The Mah this charger puts out is to low to charge anything. My cell phone, Zune, and friends Ipod would not charge at all. The only thing it could charge were batteries. Why pay for this expensive battery charger when you could get a solar battery charger for $20. I contacted Brunton and they said it will not charge the devices I bought it for. I returned it to Rei and got my money back. Long story short I bought a cheap Solio charger and that actually charges the things I bought it for.

This is a great item to have when your looking for power in the middle of nowhere. Charges rechargable batteries in a reasonable amount of time under full sun. Also used it as a cell phone trickle charger. It's a little heavy for the Minimalist packer, but those big back pack hauler will like it.

I was initially disappointed with this unit because I couldn't get my iPhone to charge via the USB port. According to the specifications the USB port on the device should be able to provide as much power as a standard computer's USB port (assuming you have full sun). I was about to return it when I had the idea to plug one of my 12v USB car chargers into the device. Voila! I was able to charge my phone. My only thought is that the voltage provided by the sun through a straight USB cable is fluctuating too much for most devices to attempt a charge, but that the 12V car charger is able to stabilize the voltage. I will be keeping this unit.Other things that I like about it is that it comes with a battery back (empty) for recharging batteries, it has a 12v socket, and a 5.5x2.5mm charging cable that could be plugged into presumably anything (like a laptop) so long as the jack on the device is the same size[@]
