Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
I tried out this one and the Kode 38. The 38 is considerably larger at not much of a weight penalty, but this one is big enough for day trips of all sorts, of couse mostly winter, just felt like it fit better overall for some reason.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
i was a little leary of this bag as first, it just seems to have SO MANY attachments and gadets, and it's heavier than i'd like. but a friend swears by Osprey gear so i bought it.
the first day out skiing with it my sis got hurt and all of a sudden the extra straps and buckles made sense. while helping her limp back to the trail head, it held all her and my gear really well (1 pair skis in A frame set up, 1 pair parallel) and the frame was super comfortable on the long walk back.
bottom line, the bag has everything you could need, is tough, comfortable, and can hold enough gear for extended trips.
trade off is it's a little heavy to give you the extra support for all that gear.
the only thing i'd like to see different would be the main compartment having a compartment compression system to organize your stuff.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
I bought this pack to upgrade from a 26 litre bag which was just a little bit too small. The bag fits great and is really comfortable to wear around. The only access to the main pocket is through the back panel. Initially I thought this would be very annoying and inconvenient but after using the pack for a few days, I realized that its actually quite practical and easy.
The functionality of this bag is pretty awful. I work on the mountain and am out there or in the back country with this pack 7 days a week, guaranteed. The small buckles are pretty difficult to deal with while wearing gloves. After putting my probe and shovel in the front pocket, the pack seems nearly full, much smaller than my old 26 litre bag. The bag seems even smaller if you have goggles in their pocket. Put a water bladder in there and you are out of space. The lower compression strap is part of the ski carry system so you can never get it tight enough when only carrying a small load, horrible for skiing at the resort. When in the backcountry, it is impossible to get anything out of the front pockets without undoing a bunch of straps and buckles which ultimately means you are taking your skis off too.
In all, I really wanted to love this back and I was really excited to get it. After using the pack for about a month, I can't handle it any longer. Its going back to the store tomorrow.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
depending on what your taking this is border line small, but where do you stop? i bought this mostly for winter snowshoeing, no over nights.but like to take a stove, cook hot lunch, make coffee, first aid,for two and be able to start a fire. i am a down hill skier, but have not gotten into backcountry, so i am not packing skis or a board, yet. the front pockets on the hip straps are big enough for the stuff you might want to get to right a way, sunscreen, gps, knife,or a small map and compass.has a great pocket up top for goggles, hydration compartment. the main compartment entry is where i keep most of the stuff, which in most cases you would not be getting this stuff out until you get where you are going and then you would get all of it out at once.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
Having already owned two other Osprey packs, I chose to drop just shy of [$] cdn on the Kode 30 yesterday. In a couple of words: totally freaking lame. The shovel handle from my G3 Avitech does not even come close to fitting in the handle pocket; my G3, 230cm probe would fit nicely into the probe pocket if I cut five inches off the folded probe. Shame on Osprey!

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
I love the idea of this packs design. However the issues the other reviews stated are all valid and a concern for myself as well. It is great for light load day trips, but I found when its time to ski with my shovel, probe, skins, and trekkers there is little room for lunch. I am unsure if I will keep it or return it- LOVE the idea, but all the points made in the other reviews are leaving me unsure because I have found the same problems.
I can't decide if I would recommend it or not.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
I have to disagree with the complaints in some of the other reviews about ease of access. Yes, you have to unclip buckles to get to innermost compartment, but that's hardly a major inconvenience. Access to avy gear is very straightforward. The ski carry set up is easy to use and versatile, without all the excess straps that flopped around on my old pack. I love the pockets on the waistband...they are spacious enough for a GPS, cell phone, or snacks. I'm amazed at how much more this pack holds than my old one, even though it doesn't appear that much bigger. This is an excellent side-country pack!

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
I bought this pack, took it home, transferred all my backcountry junk to it, strapped my snowboard on, and realized it was not going to cut the mustard. It has a lot going for it, but it was like they never tried to strap a snowboard on it before finalizing the design.
First let me say it is a beautiful pack and the assembly is very nicely done. Good sewing, a very interesting design, and advanced construction. There are pockets galore, a nicely contoured and textured back panel, a beautifully sculpted fiberglass frame rod, and overall a stunning pack.
The materials seem a bit light however. All the webbing is only 3/4" instead of full inch, and the plastic buckles are pretty anemic and chintzy. The tiny plastic buckles may have been ok, but they are sewn in very poor locations. The lower strap that would support the bottom of your snowboard has it's buckle at the exact point where it wraps around the board's edge, so it is constantly side loaded. They should have positioned the buckle at the middle of the board like most packs. The strap holding the upper end of the board has a complicated z-pull system that immediately jams against a fabric guide the webbing feeds through. Instead of snapping the strap around the board and snugging it down like on most packs, you need to use two hands to open a cam lock, hold some fabric out of the way, pull the loose end of the webbing, feed it carefully, etc, and finally close the cam lock again. Give me a break. I think the system was designed with a set-once-and-you-are-done approach, which is fine if you never take anything out of your pack, or never put something in your pack. However, every jacket or other item will change the volume of the pack and necessitate adjusting the straps again. I also remove my board and strap my snowshoes and poles on the pack for the ride back down, and they have a totally different dimension from my board and so I would have to readjust everything each time.
There are a million pockets which is nice. They all serve very obvious and useful purposes. There are thoughtful sleeves inside to hold you avalanche probe, shovel handle, etc. A key/wallet pocket in the back panel. A goggle pocket up top. Two nice hip belt pockets. A hydration panel, a "wet" pocket for the probe and shovel plus a large "dry" back panel compartment for clothes. You get the idea.
If they had used 1 inch webbing throughout and made the straps easier to cinch down, this could have been a super pack. As it stands, it's going back to the store. Skiers may have better luck. Some of the issues seem specific to the odd execution in the snowboard carry configuration.

Comments about Osprey Kode 30 Snow Pack:
This pack is great. The suspension is very comfortable with ski or snoboard strapped on. The main pocket access is easy to get to when fully loaded. Their are two separate pockets one for all your avy gear and a dry compartment for extra stuff. The pack is very durable and water proof
