Comments about Salomon XA Comp 4 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Purchased at local REI about a month ago. A couple of days later had an out of the ordinary Oct. snow and headed to the mountains to hike. I generally only hike in the winter and spring, and such, wasn't completely on my game. Going up a rocky, snow and mud covered trail (Sam's knob if you know it, then traveled to the AT at New Found Gap) and I'm convinced that the shoe kept me upright when I made two bone headed moves. Grip is good. Even though it was 28 degrees, the shoe was warm w/out being hot and my feet stayed dry even though I was shedding jacket and hat from nearly the bottom of the climb. In short, a good lite hiker and probably my most used day hike shoe.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 4 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
These shoes held up great hiking/climbing to 11,000 feet on Mt. Shasta, Ca on 11/01/09. The conditions varied greatly from dry and dusty, to wet and sloppy, to rocky (pumice and talus), to bouldery, to wet snow and icy. My feet never got wet and I was pretty stable on the loose rock I was climbing on. At least I didn't twist my ankles. Traction wise they were very good or I wouldn't have been able to get as high as I did otherwise. I mean I did slip, but honestly I should have had crampons on so considering that I was impressed. I did bruise my pinky toe and the inside of my ankle kicking various rocks, mountaineering boots they are not, which is more about my coordination than the shoes I think. I was able to toe kick into the icy snow in order to gain purchase and my toes at the end of the day were not bruised (aside from the side kicked pinky toe) or hurting. Note: I did change out the inserts which probably helps.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 4 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Amazing shoe, Completely waterproof. I went jogging today and crossed several streams while it was raining, When i got back, My socks were bone dry. The only dry part of me in fact. These shoes also dont make your feet sweat in hot weather like some other water proof shoes. And another good thing is that the shoes get rid of any water in your shoes FAST! Like when i crossed the streams, a couple of times, my shoes went under water fully, and within a minute, my feet were DRY again. Amazing shoes. Get them if you can.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 4 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I purchased these for travel. I wanted a rugged, comfortable, waterproof shoe for all the walking/sightseeing I would do. It was the only footwear I took for 2 weeks in Europe. They were comfortable out of the box, and show no signs of unusual wear after the 2 weeks. I found the cushioning to be good for the long days of sightseeing I did. They are a bit on the warm side, but that comes with the territory on waterproof shoes.
