Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I've owned the earlier style of these pants and used them extensively on hikes, backpacking trips, travel, and weekends around the house. I really liked them--until I backed into a hot wood stove and melted a hole in them. I replaced them with the current style, which seem OK so far. I have a big complaint, however: the main front pockets are merely regular sized, no longer the tremendously useful deep, large size. In the past I'd put lots of stuff in them--boarding passes, SLR camera lenses (even some fairly large ones), and much more. The new small pockets are much less useful. Also, a couple utility pockets on the side, good for a flashlight or pair of pliers, are gone. I get the feeling North Face put these pants on a cost-reduction diet, which would be more defensible if they didn't cost [$].

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I have not had this for long. It went in the wash for the first time yesterday along with a new inexpensive pants and a Prana pants. North Face compares favorably to the other two in some aspects but Some threads on the seam were showing loose ends. I think the stitching is some kind of poly/cotton. It seems the stitching shrunk a little, the nylon fabric itself did not shrink. Although it does not look terribly unsightly it has slight creases all along the stitching. The result is that it does not look as good as it first did. The main and pocket zippers also look "wavy", Like the zippers look on cheap pants after going through the wash a few times. I can only assume that the stitching shrank around the zipper. I thought this was my washing machine but the Prana and other pants still looks as good as new. The Prana also has triple stitching and what I feel is a better belt system. I also like the quality and feel as well as look. I also am not a fan of TNF pants clip, I prefer a button, the clip lacks holding power without the belt being tight enough. Most people however should not find this to be a problem.

North face has had consistent quality throughout the years but I think some new and even more inexpensive brands have gone a step beyond. I do like the pants but be careful of washing and drying it. Who knows, it may not get any worse and may even outlast the other two pants.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I've owned 4 pairs of these and have loved them. However, the current style changed the main pockets to a more conventional type whereas the older pockets were sewn into the leg and ran down to the bottom of the shorts. These older pockets easily accommodated airline tickets - even books -and secured contents. I don't trust the new pockets. The only other complaint is that the primary zipper has failed on two pairs after 6-7 years - the good news is that they have stayed in great shape for so long. I still will buy them but no longer recommend to everyone.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I took these pants on a 3-day, 40 mi hike. I was very pleased with them. They have leg and back pockets big enough for my maps, and a small zippered pocket for a little knife, etc. The material of the pants is quite stain-resistant and tough. I walked through a lot of terrain, and I found most dirt flicked off. As well, I had a misstep that sent me stumbling onto a wet wooden bridge - the pants showed no sign. I would certainly buy these again!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I have a pair of the large about 5 years old that I love and have lived in. I decided to splurge and buy a new pair, but they are much bigger than they were.
I went back and tried the mediums, but they were too small...
I really love, on my old pair, the velcro cuff at the bottom for tightening the cuff against my boots. This feature has been eliminated in my new pair. Also there used to be a small side pocket with velcro that carries my swiss army knife.
The main external pockets have moved to the side...
I love the old pants, and I suppose I will get used to the new ones.
The color coded zips for the removable legs I have always felt was brilliantly conceived, and I use these in the PNW year round.
Great material and such, but the new ones are baggy on me, and made me initially check to make sure they were not XL's with the wrong tag.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

On the positive side, these pants are comfortable, stylish and well made. On the negative, the "cargo" pocket is not expandable and more problematic is that the short zippers on the pant legs results in having to remove your boots to put on or take off pant legs (a major pain). I would not recommend for backpacking or hiking but they are fine for travel/casual wear.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

Purchased a pair a couple of weeks ago and have been on several hikes since. Although not waterproof I stayed pretty dry (also had on an REI base layer) even though it poured buckets. The construction seems to be first rate and there are plenty of pockets to store stuff.

          Very happy with my purchase.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I bought 6 of this pants in the past 4 years. One of the key reason is it has HUGE front pockets which is hardly to find among the other pants of similar quality. So I was quite disappointed by the latest model not having big pocket anymore. Looks like many people have the same complaints.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

I have to agree with another reviewer (Shank) regarding these pants.

The front pockets are shallower than the Paramount Convertible pants that I purchased in 2008. I need deep pockets to carry all of my stuff.

The placement of the stash pocket has been moved from being located on the top of the front right hand main pocket (zipper running right to left) to the stash pocket now being located right in front of the main right hand pocket (zipper running from top to bottom.) When I place items in the stash pocket in becomes bulky and blocks my ability to quickly place my hand in the right pocket to grab something.

Good quote from reviewer, "Shank". "Also, a couple utility pockets on the side, good for a flashlight or pair of pliers, are gone." Couldn't have said it better myself.

Seems like The North Face didn't do their homework when redesigning these pants.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:

Being in the Pacific Northwest, and considering that it rains here pretty much 24/7, I wanted a pair of pants that would resist water, but can use it all year round. This was the only water resistant convertible pants I found at REI. The fit is perfect for me, and the material feels very durable and reliable. The only complaint I have is that the material is a bit abrasive, primarily at the convertible zip seam. But, this is not at all bothersome, and I don't even notice it when hiking. This is a great pair of pants; water bounces off the fabric like it would off an umbrella, and my legs as dry as if I had nothing on. I do not have to worry about sitting on rocks and risking the fabric to rip. There are plenty of pockets to stash chocolate bars for hikes, and the big vertical opening of the front pockets make it easy to take them out. It comes with a integrated belt which is easy to use (not the best but decent) and there are also belt loops to which you can attach your own belt of choice. The conversion seams cut right above my knees making the pants into a perfect summer hiking shorts. I got the gray one and I love the color. I feel like I can run through anything in these pants.
