Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

This is a bright light with several useful settings. It works fine when cycling on smooth pavement or just walking, but seems to need a little extra securing (such as a zip tie), as the clip is not the best. When biking on rough terrain or any kind of running, the light has a tendency to turn off (the batteries are not well housed and tend to slip from the contacts; additionally, the on/off button is not protected, and can be pressed on a bump). The clip is not the best either, so it's tough to secure to clothing. Not so much fun when it falls off and you're in the middle of the road searching for the case, batteries, cover, etc. in the dark. I have also tried putting it on my dog's collar or leash, and that never worked out well at all. Either it gets turned off by the dog moving, or knocked off completely. All in all, it's a good light for smooth cycling or light activity. Don't trust your safety to it doing anything higher impact.

Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

It is a pretty decent little light, and you cannot argue with the price, which makes this a great addition for a little more being seen potential. The clip is not great so it probably would not work well for running. I clip it to my back pocket or rear helmet strap when biking, my wife attaches them to the light loops on her panniers or the under-seat pouch. There are other lights (about twice the price)that are twice as bright as these, making this a good second or third light. I figure 2-3 red flashing lights is better than 1.
Also other than the clip on the back these have no other mounting options, which limits their uses.

Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

I bought this as a back up. I use it for night-running and my bicycle commutes.

One major gripe I have is the on/off button, which can be accidentally pressed to turn ON. Then it'll take like 7 clicks to turn OFF.

But one cool thing my main Planet Bike lights don't have is the numerous flash patterns.

It's cheap, and not a bad alternative to keep around as a backup. Better than riding a bike or running at night WITHOUT ANY LIGHTS!!!

Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

I bought two of these, one for me and one to attach to my dog's harness since there are few sidewalks or streetlights where I live. Of the two, only one works, and sporadically at that. The issue is the design of the battery housing. If the strobe gets bumped, the batteries can come loose of the terminals, requiring you to pry open the strobe and replace them. When it works, it works great, but an alternative product that's more reliable might be a better choice.

Great product, but the batteries can become loose from the contacts. A simple adjustment of the contacts to make a tighter fit should do the trick.

Good light, for cheapest light at REI

Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

Unlike the picture online, there is a Nathan logo on the red cover. I have had a problem with the batteries not staying mounted, so I continually need to open it up and push them back in after a good hit on a table or falling off or whatever. I will probably stuff some toilet paper in there so they can't budge.

I like the different modes, #6 is my favorite! I wear this on the back of my head lamp, the clip works well for that. My dog also has one for his collar.

So for being the cheapest light on REI, it's worth it if you can deal with the issues I mentioned.

Comments about Nathan LED Safety Strobe:

Excellent visibility at a distance. Wide variety (eight or more?) of attention-getting flash/scroll/strobe modes in addition to very visible steady-on mode. Button on upper back of light is easy to locate by touch in the dark. Almost zero weight. Very visible from sides, at least 180', and for at least many hundreds of yards. Good commuter helmet light, too. Great battery life, and it's fine with rechargables. I haven't had any problems on the bumpiest roads with the light turning itself off, so if that was a problem, they must have fixed it. I bought two, and am ordering more.
This is a clip-only light (not a safety-pin-on style), designed to attach to straps, clothing, backpacks, helmet straps, etc. Doesn't come with specific hardware to attach to bike rack or seatpost (but you can improvise; keep reading). The clip is not extremely strong and does not clasp tightly enough to be sure it won't fall off (joggers be aware). However if attaching to a strap, as I do on the rear of my helmet where I have a 6-LED forehead headlight strapped around the helmet rim, I first clip it to the back of the helmet strap then pass a rubber band vertically behind the strap, and bring the top and bottom of the rubber band out and over the top and bottom of the light, which tensions it in place & works well. Same will work with backpack straps, waist belts, etc. A great light & good value for the price. Haven't had it out in a marathon downpour yet, but it holds up fine through the prolonged medium drizzles I've been out in so far. Love this light; 4 stars; when they improve the clip this will be the ultimate 5 star helmet/clip light. Thanks, Nathan.

Great clip for versatiltiy. Too bad the designers forgot to program a two second delay for "Off." At every bump on the road, the back-mounted switch turns your safety light off. You think you are safe while riding, but your light has turned off.

This is a great bike tail-light for the price. It was so nice that it was stolen while I went into the store to buy a bottle of water :) - I did forget to remove it; it is small and compact.

I have not changed the batteries - I had it for 3 or 4 years (city commuter and recreational cyclist on weekends).
