Comments about Werner Tybee Fiberglass Paddle:
New for '09. Had used the nylon/carbon (black) Tybee model for a few years. Liked this as it is identical in everything but blade construction. This one DOES have the new Werner shaft (flush button).
I have since changed over to a Corryvrecken (HUGE blade) as my primary paddle. This is on the back of my boat as a spare. Noticeably heavier than the carbon Tybee and way more heavy than my Corryvrecken. However, I find the Tybee shape to be better suited for smaller lakes and larger rivers. Ocean and Great Lakes are where I find the Corryvrecken to really shine.
A trade off for the weight, is the near-indestructibility of the 'glass/nylon blades. While I have not had to use it due to the loss of a paddle (thank god!!!!), my yellow Tybee does get a lot of use at night (covered in reflective tape) and in areas that are really rocky or filled with stumps and other obstacles.
In short, if you are a mid to high angle paddler, the nylon/'glass Tybee is a great backup or a great starter paddle at a great price.
